Why would we play a Big South football schedule this season after the MEAC's decision to cancel all fall sports.
That don't make since. It is still early yet and some of the white conferences may cancel their football seasons as well.
It has been documented that Afro Americans are more apt to get COVID-19 than white folks.
That may be a prominent reason they canceled the season. I don't think that our leaders are being overly cautious. I think they are doing the right thing.
It is selfish to want a season of football and place our student athletes in harm's way just to satisfy people's selfish wants.
These kids are more valuable than just being money makers for our institution.
Ask yourself, would you want your kid male or female participating in this potential deadly environment just to satisfy a few selfish people.
Time will tell.

If I had confidence in the COVID protocols and medical support and my kid wanted to play, Yes. Hundreds of parents sent their sons and daughters to campus two weeks ago because they believed in the school's ability to keep their kids safe. Nothing has changed about A&T's preparedness.

Something must have changed because they canceled the season.

I really don't know if Harold would want to do this in lieu of everything that's going on involving the virus. I'm just saying if the CAA, Southern, Big South are playing football this year without incident, then our athletes are on the sidelines looking in. Black folk in leadership are always prematurely cautious to our detriment. I hope I'm wrong.

Maxell, all of those conferences you mentioned are predominantly white. The Big Ten and ACC are White conferences.
They don't have no problem in playing games because the majority of the players are Black.
They got that "Trump" mentality, money over health and death.

I think we could put together a pretty good 10-game independent schedule between the CAA, Southern and Big South opponents with only one overnight stay(NDSU) and preserve our money games.
Elon NDSU Liberty Gardner-Webb Campbell JMU Furman Chas Southern Western Carolina NCCU (if they want to play)

The key words are "The CAA is allowing." To date the MEAC has not given such an option. We'd either have to wait for them to do so (and they probably won't) or pull a Hampton since we're member of the conference until next year. As much as I'd like to see some football, I don't want to have a team full of dudes coughing all over each other or worse.

As far as safety is concerned, the key for me is testing. For example, I had zero confidence that Delaware State would consistently follow protocols. I have more confidence that Elon would.

I haven't heard explicitly that we'd be able to use CARES Act funding to exclusively test student-athletes aside from the general student and staff population. With that being said, we have a case of rising expenses due to testing and decreased costs due to enrollment drops, attendance caps, and potentially lost OOC game checks.
