Shouts out to CS making the Rose Bowl Parade but I was wondering why the whole B&GMM wasn't invited? I see FAMU & Ala St are there.

Not all of CS is traveling...Honda selected 60 percussion players from A&T, Bethune-Cookman, Hampton, Prairie View, Tennessee St, Alabama A&M & Miles to perform on Honda’s “Celebration of Dreams” float, which will be the first float in the parade. In addition, BGMM's Assistant Band Director Dr. Lamon Lawhorn is composing the cadences that they will be performing.
When I looked at the schools, I realized that the schools selected were the ones that participated in the last Honda BOTBs, of course with the exception of Alabama State, who's band is performing as a whole.

You must submit an application to the Rose Bowl to request to be considered as a participating band. And if you are accepted by the Rose Bowl Parade organization then the real work begins...raising the hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay for the trip. It's a great honor to be "selected" to perform in this event but it's also a tremendous financial burden. The year that the BGMM performed in the Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade the University put all other fundraising activities on hold in order to raise the money for our band to go to New York. Can you imagine what it costs to take a band to LA for 5 days? No it wasn't a "slight" that the BGMM didn't go to the Rose Bowl Parade. I'm betting we considered the expense and didn't apply. The members of "Cold Steel" that are participating in the parade with the other school drummers were sponsored by "Honda" so I'm sure their expenses were covered. In the future I'd rather see us fund the BGMM attending all out-of-conference football games trips rather than expensive cross-country parades. And maybe once in a while, fund some major event like Macy.

I want the BGMM pushing sound down Pennsylvania Ave in 2020 when Michelle Obama becomes our first Female President with her VP Oprah Winfrey

That said, I don't think any of us on this site will be around that long.
