Here's another reason! Check out @prestigeedwards’s Tweet: Come in, get acclimated with the school and your teammates, dig into the playbook and route-tree and take advantage of every opportunity you get. I’m betting that he doesn’t get a redshirt, sans injury, and he will be an intriguing option. Hopefully, Prestige or Ron Hunt leads to Bell running routes out of the Slot. I personally feel Bell can be one amazing safety valve out of the slot taking advantage of mismatches over the middle.

I don't see him playing much this year! We have a lot of talent...

i agree, gator. the kid appears to be very talented, but we've got plenty of talent returning from last year's team at the receiver positions. if i'm coach washington, i woudn't burn his redshirt unless "absolutely necessary".
heck, i'm still waiting on ahmed bah to have his "breakout season". i don't see edwards leaf frogging ahead of bah and bah ain't even a starter. edwards has bell, hunt, leslie, lockhart, bah and chance pride to beat out before he see's significant playing time. not to mention last year's redshirts too...

Obviously he is a talented athlete and a speed guy and his tape showed an ability to catch the long ball over the shoulder. Last year, our receivers converted very few deep balls, drops, poor angles, etc. Bell should have been moved inside either to the slot or converted to a tight end for his and the team's sake. He is a good strong player at the FCS level but lacks the foot speed to play WR at the next level. He could exploit the middle of the field an area our offense rarely attacked in the games I watched.

Recently seems as if we could use Bell same way Morgan State used Shiancoe and Del State used McCants. BTW, they both had career days against the Aggies.

But is Bell quick enough to play in the slot? I think he works best when he can manhandle smaller DBs on the outside, especially in the redzone on slant routes and jump balls. I dont know if he would be as effective running dig routes.

My goodness Bell was hampered by a lingering injury last year. I don’t think he got any slower from his freshmen and sophomore season he was just slowed by an injury.
Name one rising senior in the MEAC that can exceed his production over the past 3 years.......geez

Bell has really decent hands that can work in that 10-12 yard zone between the LB and deep safety. He's still faster than most MEAC linebackers even with his lingering ankle issues.

Bell has showed me enough athleticism smartness, and talent to get open, but also the strength to out battle who anybody that challenge him. He even came through while battling injury the whole season, sometimes catching kick returns. I believe that Bell has more speed than people think, and can turn it on when he needs it. When healthy probably the best receiver in FCS. I hope that with the talent and confidence that Edwards has, that he could follow that up.

imo, i think his "strength" and his "hands" are bell's biggest assets. his hands are like "glue". if he gets both hands on the ball first, ain't no db or safety gone get it away from him. as far as his speed, i think at our level, bell has "respectable" speed but not "blazing" speed...

You don’t need blazing speed even in the NFL. One time I was talking to Michael Irving in the gym and he said people forget about hand strength the unique ability to muscle the ball away plus the ability to create separation without extending the arm and drawing a penality . Those two attributes are more unique than speed at wideout

Imo, the best place for Bell to play is where he would help us win the most games. Use him like we used to use Trey Scott and the outside opens up INSTANTLY, plus we're going to throw in the middle a ton because he's our best receiver and that's where he'll be.
I was at the Del State game where McCants lit us up for six td catches. That's what got him into the NFL. I'm believing Bell could easily get 15 tds from the TE position. Easily.
On second thought it wouldn't be fair to put him on the field at tight end with the embarrassment of riches we have at receiver and then Maine Martin behind the qb. Better to give teams a fighting chance.

Edwards will probably benefit greatly from the 4 game redshirt rule next year...
