As you all know, I have been on here for the last 2 years saying that this team needed a true home run hitter in the backfield to really make our offense unstoppable. Love the tough, rugged, blue-collar running style of Cartwright, but I never felt that he put the fear of God into opposing defenses. Last week, Martin came in and immediately showcased an explosive burst and second gear that we haven't seen since ... well, you know who. But was that just a one time anomaly against a scrub defense ... or do you think Martin can really emerge as the "take-it-to-the house" kind of RB that we have been hoping for?

Oh, shorty is faster than I thought. I thought he was more of the same type of back as Cartwright but, if you give him daylight, he will take it to the house. I like his game.

he showed very good "acceleration" against gw, but then again, that was "gw". i'll need to see him play a few more games before i can conclude whether he's the "game changer" he appeared to be against gw. heck, i thought unc transfer graves would be an explosive rb for us, hasn't been so far...

If Martin was still at Coastal he would had been their Feature Back. Also whats up with Graves he cant seem to get on the Field.. but its still early in the season

My only question is how good Martin is at pass protection. I need to go back and study the film.
But if he is adequate in that area, then I think he absolutely needs to be starting.
I would give him 20-25 carries a game and reduce Cartwright to around 10.

God that was some horrible defense. That inside linebacker slid right into a block and then forgot he was supposed to try and make the tackle.

You want to bench during his senior year. Yeah, I think that would go along great in the locker room...

No "I" in team. Plus, how does 10 carries a game equate to being benched?

G-W had very slow linebackers but Martin should get more touches as the season progresses. I would not supplant Cartwright or alter his touches. Graves will most likely be the one impacted. Martin is only a R-So. He's got two more years after this year!

BTW: Martin would have scored on the long run Cartwright had against ECU.
You know it and I know it.

Yeah but there's an "I" in chemistry, intangibles and leadership. Cartwright has done nothing to warrant a reduction in carries other than play against JSU and ECU. He's going to get a 100 yards a game against every team for the rest of the year.
25 carries is the bell cow. 10 carries is the change of pace back. You cut his carries that far, its clearly a reduced role. That's like flipping the snaps between Raynard and Carter.
