Looks like the blocking issues at the interior of the line that durhamgsoaggie pointed out have been fixed.
Even on the first kick of the night that Ruiz missed, GW's defenders did not get penetration.

Hey Mike Simmons, thanks for keeping the refs honest on that field goal. I guess I'll have to eat my words...young man's going to be alright. I guess the coaches have proven once again, they know more about football players than me. My mistake!

That was one helluva kick.....it springboarded us into the 2nd half. I ain't gonna lie - I was talking mad smack about how he was gonna miss it. This should bode well for his confidence moving forward. We're gonna need him!!

His coaches showed confidence in him and his teammates to go out and make the kick. They showed they were worthy of that confidence. That's kinda the theme for the team. Prepare and execute.

Ball placement may be key for him. I noticed he made the kick from the field's left hash mark and missed the other one that was closer to the middle of the field. All kickers have their preferences, as you noticed the Carolina Panthers' kicker always chooses to kick PATs from the field's right hash mark. Maybe the left hash mark is our kicker's preference. I'll be watching for that in the future.

I called this one from the stands...I even offered Thrilla and anybody else who would take it a $5 bet...Ruiz hooks a lot of his kicks. He had a strong left to right wind across his face at the time of the play. All he had to do was get it up and let the big guys up front protect.

What a difference a game makes! I wanted go on record that I'm feeling better about our kicking game. For two years I have doubted the skills of our kickers. But now I think we are improving.

I'm not all the way there yet. Would like to see one more solid outing before I can put the memories of the Celebration Bowl behind me.

I agree on a Up Grade on our kicker.I THINK about Cody Jones hit that Big Kick vs Kent State would had been a OT with out that Kick.on a good note the true Freshman de have as a punter is the real Deal . He changes field Postion and he is only a Freshman. He and Stuckey are Keepers

In addition to missing multiple extra points and field goals every kickoff is received by the opposing team at the 15 or 10 yard line. Most kickers are putting the kickoff in to the end-zone and some out of the end zone. Our kickoff team had done a great job containing but we playing with fire. If you cant consistently get it to at least the 5 we might as well squib kick the ball to lessen the chance of a big return.

Neither Ruiz or Rogers appear to have particularly strong legs. I have yet to see a kickoff reach the endzone and every FG attempt more than 25 yards is a nail-biter.
We might need to target this position next recruiting period.
I know both are just sophomores, but I honestly dont think we can expect for things to get much better at this point.

In all fairness, Rogers has not even been giving the opportunity to kick a PAT or FG this season and when he does mess up on a kickoff he is immediately pulled and Ruiz put in. I don't understand why he has not been giving the same opportunity, as if they are ok with not improving.
