Remember, Martin was at wssu before becoming the second in command under Bowles. Winston made great strides academically, physical plant/facilities, and enrollment. In fact, their alums continue to talk about him and how he made a major impact on WSSU.

Here's another bet...if he had stayed at WSSU we would have been looking over our shoulder at them in our rearview mirror. Not saying he would have built WSSU bigger than A&T but he would have put them on the HBCU map. But when he left so did their transformation. Oh WSSU had a great football team after he left but the university slid back into "also ran" status. I'm just thankful Dr. Martin ended up here. I hope he stays to implement the rest of his vision but I know one day he will leave. And I hope we have an equally great replacement for him.
