Thanks for posting my comment. I really hope your band director changes his mind. I know it sucks not playing halftime but your presence in the stands will be just as powerful. I don't know what ECU is trying to pull, but scheduling Band Day during the first game of the season doesn't make sense and a lot of folks in Greenville are upset over this. I marched at ECU and graduated in 99. I have had season tickets every year since I graduated and we never had Band Day this early. Also Band Day is always scheduled during games against teams that we know will not bring fans. ECU knows that A&T will bring a lot of fan support and a lot of folks are coming just to see your band. I'm not sure who schedules the different events during home games but whoever did this really dropped the ball. If it all possible try and convince your band director to come. A lot of folks would greatly appreciate it and would really enjoy hearing you guys. Like I stated in my post above, march up College Hill with the rest of the high school bands and let the ECU fans see how great you are. From AN ECU Grad and Former Marching ECU Band Member! I guess I will send this to DIRECTOR OF BANDS: Dr. Kenneth Ruff! If it will help convince him to change his mind then please do. There are other alumni and current members who feel the same way as well as members of the black student union. It is my understanding that the band was invited. I guess the ball is in your court if you want to come.

Someone explain to me how "we" understand the value of the band but unwilling to invest in it? A trip to ECU isn’t about funds it’s about the bands pride and thinking that they are bigger than why there is marching band. If there was no football team and fans watching the team would we have a marching band? Hell no is the answer. The band leadership needs to swallow their pride and go support the team and fans that are traveling to watch the game.

On a different note the ECU alums and current students need to lunch a social media campaign aimed at your band and school leadership to let A&T match at halftime. If the black student population does that leadership will succumb to the social media storm. If you guys start now we could have this resolved 🙃

I know several on this site are upset because the band isn't performing at the first two games. But despite their absence, I'm sure the football team will perform very well. This isn't the first time our band has had to make tough decisions about what games to attend. As for our band leadership, I support them 100%! In the past 15 years they have continuously produced one of the nation's most entertaining and innovative bands. And they have done this with a small travel budget and minimal band student scholarships. The reason why they are still talking about A&T at UNC Chapel Hill and UNC Charlotte is because our entertaining and innovative band showed up and showed out.

In earlier threads people close to the band said why. It’s about not being able to perform at halftime. Hell we went to Gardner-Webb last year...what’s the difference in travel time? Not much probably.

Do you think Bama State will augment the BGMM in Montgomery?

That is one school and they started that band less than 10 years ago.

I will say this, if there is a resolution that both sides could come to then, they should definitely try. I wouldn't just accept, "Your band cannot come!" Our leadership should be in contact early and often with the folk who made this decision whether that be Mr. Martin, Mr. Hilton and/or Mr. Ruff. Subliminally, they want to create an competitive advantage for their (ECU) football team and we shouldn't just sit back idle and let it happen.

I thought Hilton said a while back that the band would be at the Jacksonville State game or maybe I was hearing things.

They sad that due to Band Day, A&T cannot perform a halftime show. I am currently working on a social media campaign to try and get the band director to at least shorten the band day halftime show so that A&T can perform. There are a lot of logistical things that is going to make this hard. TV time being the main factor. Even if the campaign fails, the band is still welcomed to come.

Well, as far as I'm concerned we (band) should be there...Hell, perform after the game. That's what they did up at App. State. What would be the difference?

No they didn't say the A&T Band couldn't come...that's correct. But they did organize the day so it would not be conducive for the A&T band to perform at halftime. If ECU truly wanted the A&T band to show up, all it had to do was allow the standard 5 or 6 minutes at halftime for the band to perform. That's not asking for anything out of the ordinary. Remember, ECU is the host school...it's their game and their stadium so if they truly want to welcome the A&T Band, all they need to do is allow our marching band to perform at halftime. Hey this isn't a big deal...the game will be played with or without the A&T Band in attendance. And I'm sure the ECU crowd will be thoroughly entertained by those high school bands.
