What are they sposed to do? Cater to our desires? Man please, I ain't mad at them for looking out for their own best interests. They're not supposed to help us out in any way. They have a game to try to win. We already went down there and beat them at basketball. Can you imagine if we beat them at Dowdy-Ficklin and our band was down there playing the whole time? Folk would be FIRED for letting that happen as they dang well should be. Please, It is not about catering to desires. It is about courtesy that is usually extended and then for certain situations the rules are changed. Furthermore, ECU is the first one to complain when they feel they are getting shafted by State or UNC. So, what we cant say anything now? If they are that concerned they should have cancelled the contract when they had the chance. For me it is about the opportunity to use a space to promote our brand in space we are not in that often.

We can say all we want, but it won't change anything. Their AD's job isn't to extend courtesy, it's to keep his job.
I understand the viewpoint about what we would like them to do, but we are an OPPONENT. They would be foolish to extend us any edge whatsoever.

So why not do a postgame show instead, like we did at App St. a few years ago? Forget our sound, listen to the crowd response. You can’t tell me Savannah St is a cheaper trip than ECU. So given the choice of performing in front of a bad football team, 15 people in the stands, and a field of crickets or being on national tv in a packed stadium playing a BCS football team on a day when a bunch of potential band recruits and their parents are going to be there, we choose the crickets?

Yeah, the decision not to go to ECU is a pride thing by the staff...not rooted in any sort of sound logic. From a recruiting stand point and for blacks in that area that want to see the BGMM this is a short sighted decision.

I know it’s not changing anything, however it does not go unnoticed to me that of all the home games their schedule, they select high school band when we come to town citing concerns about the gate and attendance. When the reality is they are trying to prevent us from having an advantage. Don’t piss and call it rain.

We agree that's the reality, so what's the problem? I'm not even trying to shut down discussion. I'm just saying I fully understand what they're doing and I'd do the same thing. I ain't mad at them for having common sense. I am mad that it affects us, but I totally understand and I'd question the sanity of their decisionmakers if they didn't make it as hard as possible for us.

When you make an effort to respect our students and our University, we will make every effort to show up and entertain your audience. But some PWIs haven't been that inviting...when Coastal Carolina announced when our band showed up on campus at Myrtle Beach for a game that they had cut our allotted time for our halftime show and they issued our band director a walkie talkie to tell him when the band could play in the stands. Or when App State informed us that our halftime show would be moved to after the game and after the darn fireworks show. Or UNC-C informing us that we could perform but each band student had to buy an admission ticket at student rates. Yes it is a pride thing and if they respect us like UNC Chapel Hill we will give them a memorable performance. By the way, every A&T Band Director has had to make tough choices about where they will perform based on the budget and what's best for the program and the University. So this is not new. The university is doing all it can to provide adequate funds for travel expenses, scholarships, instruments and band staff. But it may never be able to fund every away band trip.

... but Savannah State instead? YEAH, we do owe the Crowd in Savannah a chance to witness "THE BLUE & GOLD MARCHING MACHINE" Savannah State has brought their Band to "BB&T STADIUM" a.k.a "AGGIE STADIUM" IT IS SAVANNAH STATE last Year in "THE MEAC" I am disappointed as well, I am from DOWN EAST, and I had penciled this game as a "Must Attend" and was excited at the prospect of THE BGMM entering Dowdy Flicken Stadium.

FROM MEACFANSZONE: MCP0103 It’s an advantage...no doubt about it. I’m not shocked ECU changed band day to our game. It was striking how much better we were compared to the UNCC band. They were out classed on the field and in the stands. HBCU fans really take for granted the sound and visuals of our bands. Most PWC fall in to a few camps...some want us there for the show...others don’t want us there because of he comparison to what they have...and still others want to try to do a joint show, because of the comparison to what they have. If I was the band director, I would still come. I would get there before ECU pre game and march up college hill with the other high school bands. You would be allowed since its band day and the other bands will be marching to the stadium as well. That would be great exposure and recruiting for A&T to those high school band students. Also fans can see the band marching in as you pass through the tailgating spots. Even though you can't perform your halftime show you will be able to play in the stands. I'm not sure of the stand rules but I do know when NCCU came they played a lot and they played loud.

I do remember the BGMM going to SSU when their band was suspended during the last schedule rotation. And i also remember the first time our two bands got together in 2013 i think....scrappy lil band there lol. Regardless our schedule doesn't have too many appealing bands coming to greensboro (Legion & 101 being the best options there) and the trips...meh... I was really counting on JSU & ECU but I understand.

You think they want us there pumping up our crowd? You think they want us there giving their fans a reason to wish their band was better? You think they want us there hyping up our football team that already stands a good chance to beat them? You think they want us there stealing all their recruits that are willing to entertain the idea of attending an HBCU? You think they want of us there giving all the ones that won't something to think about? So they disrespect us, and out of pride we respond by giving them everything they could ask of us? Um...
