Well the long hot summer is grinding on and that can mean only one thing...It's almost football and marching band season again. So here are a few preseason band nuggets for your pleasure:
1. Band Camp starts this Saturday July 28th at 8:00 am. Let the sweating begin! (By the way, the NCAA doesn't regulate marching bands so these guys will go from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm...with a break or two for meals and bio-breaks) As far as the number of players and this year's sound, I'll let you know in a couple of weeks.
2. No trip to the Jasonville State or East Carolina games. Unfortunately the travel cost to the Jacksonville State game are too steep for the Blue and Gold Marching Machine to make that trip. We'd blow our entire travel budget and wouldn't have the funds to travel to Bethune Cookman or Savannah State. And East Carolina has scheduled its "High School Band Day" for our game. If we attended the ECU game we would have to perform at halftime in a combined band alongside the ECU band and several local high school bands.
3. 100 Anniversary! This is the A&T Marching Band's 100 anniversary this year and the band plans to celebrate that historic event with several events. More details later.

ECU did that intentionally.

Yeah, we gotta figure out a way for the Marching Machine to travel to Montgomery, AL for the Jacksonville State game. I wonder if ESPN could pay?

Absolutley NO NEED for the BGMM at Savannah State. Terrible band and soon to be D2 football. Easily 30 pt win.
Jacksonville State is a nationally televised game between 2 top 25 FCS programs on the big network I believe. We need all hands on deck for this, the full monty.
East Carolina, OK they have a scheduling conflict, cool, we dont go there, no biggie.
But we need to be full bore for the Jacksonville State affair

There is absolutely no reason to force any college student to practice something from 6 AM to 9 PM.
You're talking about a 15 hour work day just to learn some damn music.
The adults in charge need to do a better job of time management.

The team will be there and so will some Aggie football fans. But travel, hotel and meal expenses for 250 band members will run over $50,000. And the JSU contract didn't include travel funds for our band. The band travel budget is limited and it doesn't make sense to spend it all on one game. As for ECU, why pay that expense just to play two or three songs in the stands? ECU moved their "high school band day" up because they thought the crowd would be light. So halftime will be a mass band that includes the ECU band and some high school bands. We don't want to play under those conditions.

The adults in charge need to do a better job of time management. Band Camp is like boot camp for the military. It's where band students learn the majority of the songs they will play during the season and how to march as a unit. It takes this amount of commitment to be a top marching band. That's why former band members are so loyal and supportive of the Band. We know how hard these kids work to perform for us on Saturday.

Could it be possible to move Savannah state travel budget over to Jacksonville State and then possibly get in contact with the athletic department and see if they can assist with the remainder of the travel expenses. I'm sure they're are some line items that could be adjusted.
What about reaching out to the chancellors office about some discretionary funds as this was a game that could not have been planned budgetarily when the 2018 budget was due as the game had not been finalized.
***I know these are all ideas the BGMM braintrust have already exhausted, just saying, got to make it happen. We need them folks to get the full "AGGIE PRIDE" experience from sound, fundamental football to precise, outstanding musicianship, to the greatest die hard fan base in the world, AGGIE NATION.
"CAN I GET AN AGGIE PRIDE?" LOL
LETS GO, IM READY, Lol.

All them black folks in eastern NC are excited about A&T coming. And we know every black student at ECU will be attendance. ECU is doing what State and UNC does to them. But that’s cool, can’t wait until we establish GreenSBORO east.

ECU studied video of the UNC Charlotte game last year. They saw the mistake that was made by the UNCC program. We turned their stadium into a home game for us. Although that would be difficult to do in Greenville, still an edge is an edge, and they are not trying to give us that.
