www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2020/10/19/records-highlight-nc-lofty-goals-for-usga.htmlThe organization told the state it was in “preliminary discussions” with Sandhills Community College about the construction and operation of a “state of the art turfgrass research program/facility in Moore County, to be owned by the Community College.” The proposed facility would be operated through a partnership between Sandhills, North Carolina A&T, N.C. State University and the USGA, records show. Additionally, USGA claimed to be in conversations with both N.C. State and N.C. A&T “for potential collaboration in the fields of agronomy, turfgrass management, greens research, and other related initiatives.” USGA told the state that it had made $1.9 million in grants to various universities in 2019. Welp... It seems like wheels are in motion for green grass year-round, maybe. Watch them use it for new turf for the old Holland Bowl. LOL!!

They really need to overseed with rye grass..... like today.....Because playing in February on the field will have an effect since the Bermuda grass will be dormant in February. The activity on the field in Feb is gone effect how soon it greens up for the summer. As it gets churned up in February that could kill some of the grass because you will be exposing more of the roots during freezing temperatures.
This needs to get done not just for show in Feb but to protect the Bermuda grass from the activity while its in a dormant stage. Yes I was a Horticulture Major for a year !!!

Does the Facilities and Athletics departments even know this is happening? There are operational silos on campus that has kept us from leveraging what could have been interdepartmental efforts in the past. The fact that the USGA is sponsoring it may even preclude the learnings smoothly translating to improvement to other sports at A&T. This research is about golf course turf. We'll see what happens but I expect it to be a case of the left hand not knowing or caring what the right hand is doing unless Martin somehow connects the dots. There could also be restrictions on the use of the results of the grant itself. If anything it may get someone at least thinking about how to use EXISTING turf science to make our fields better and more durable during dormant seasons.

Seeding rye grass is nothing but throwing the seed down before a good rain. Seed might cost $500 at most

This is unacceptable we cannot and should never accept mediocrity. Tell that to Martin and the powers that be . I'm with you along with many others on this field thing . But it's evident that the Athletics Department and Chancellor and the powers that be do not feel the same when it comes to the field. Yeah this is why I see Ayantee loosing it's status as an HBCU in the real sense of the word. Check Morgan State building a school of medicine with creative funds without state funding. We should be way ahead of the game in terms of academic excellence and infrastructure. Perhaps there is a colonial mindset like in Nigeria and too many other African nations particularly French speaking ones.

Morgan has received authorization to explore and pursue an affiliate agreement to build a School of Osteopathic Medicine. That's great. However, are you suggesting that A&T is losing its status as a school of excellence because of grass and Morgan State?
