Lenoir-Rhyne Football Announces Coaching Changes
Allan Gerber promoted to offensive coordinator and Ron Boyd named offensive line coach
Hickory, N.C. – Wayne Hicks, Head Football Coach at Lenoir-Rhyne College, announced today several coaching changes for the 2005 season.
Allan Gerber, hired to coach L-R's Quarterbacks and Wide Receivers last month, has added the responsibility of coordinating the Bears' offense. Prior to joining the Lenoir-Rhyne staff, Gerber held the position of Interim Head Football Coach at Randolph-Macon (2002-03) and served as the offensive coordinator at North Carolina State A&T University (1998-01) during the same highly successful tenure of Coach Hicks (Defensive Coordinator), in which the team compiled a 35-11 mark.
Additionally, Ron Boyd was hired as Offensive Line Coach for the Bears after serving in the same capacity at West Virginia Wesleyan College for the previous seven years. Boyd, a 1992 graduate of Wesleyan, was instrumental in the development of the Bobcats' back-to-back conference championships in 2002-03.
Hicks also announced two other promotions. Steve Wall, a 2001 graduate of Furman University, was elevated to the position of restrictive earnings coach and will continue to oversee the Linebackers and coordinate the team's Strength and Conditioning program. Wall will be entering his third season with the Bears and will complete his master's degree in the spring of 2005. Former Bear letterman, Trent Lowman, has been elevated to the position of graduate assistant coach and will tutor the wide receivers. Lowman spent the 2004 season as an assistant coach at Bandys High School in Catawba, N.C.
