The folks in charge are constantly assessing where we are and making informed decisions. We're in good hands until they move on. If somebody with a different agenda comes in behind them, party over. Not necessarily. If they are doing their jobs right, they will leave a infrastructure in place that can still thrive without them. That's my prayer. But if the state has a different agenda then we get who they give us.

In a new conference a new logo should be next on the list. That yellow dog needs to be permanently retired. Speaking of rebranding:

Looks like we might have let this rare opportunity slip away.

A "golden era" is usually tied to a coach. If you've had the opportunity to build a "program" then you just win. Our "golden era" was unmistakably tied to Coach Broadway. He was a coach sent here for that time, for that challenge. His job was to rebuild and he did that up to an undefeated national championship.
The opportunity that may be slipping away is turning a good team into a good program. We'll know it's gone if we don't flip to a 9-win season next year, nothing less.

I think we need to study Appalachian State's model. They just keep reloading every year... even with coaching changes. Sure they lose one or two games during the season but overall they consistently win.
We've got to do a better job evaluating Head football coaches. I'm not sure what our criteria is. Think about it, we got Broadway because Maynor turned us down. Would we have had the "golden era" if that hadn't happened? It just shows we have a "hire and hope" strategy. We've got to do better.

We are handicapped by limiting ourselves to coaches of a certain demographic Other programs hire the best candidate!

Takes money and infrastructure. The schools that continually reload regarding of losses on coaching staff and players probably have at least triple our budget. That makes it a lot easier to put everything else in place. Once you have a successful plan in place losing a piece here or there won't matter.

Money is an excuse…. It boils down to coaching.
We continuously lose to teams that invest less than we do.
FAMU and Morgan State consistently beat us and we have a larger athletics budget. Heck GW beat us and our athletics budget is larger than theirs. SC state won the MEAC and they probably have the smallest budget in the entire conf…

I dont think it is a demographic that we are limiting ourselves to. I think it is the pay scale.

But if the state has a different agenda then we get who they give us. Which is why I have always maintained that Ayantee is a state controlled; rather than state supported.

He shouldn't. He is about 32 years old with a far worse resume than Washington.
