Aggies beat Grambling in Celebration Bowl to wrap up perfect season By Jeff Mills jeff.mills@greensboro.com Dec 16, 2017 Updated 2 hrs ago
ATLANTA — So what does a perfect season mean? Marquell Cartwright answered the question as quickly as he hits a hole opened by his veteran offensive line. The MVP of the Celebration Bowl understands exactly what finishing 12-0 means. “For me,” Cartwright said, “it’s just knowing we’ve left our mark on this university, knowing people will talk about this for years to come, knowing we’ll be remembered. I’m just so happy to be a part of it.” Cartwright, the junior from High Point, was a big part of it. He rushed for 110 yards and scored a touchdown, and he caught three passes for 54 yards and another touchdown, leading N.C. A&T to a 21-14 victory over Grambling at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday. The Aggies finished 12-0 for the first time in their 93-year history. They’re the only MEAC team to complete a full season unbeaten since the league was born in 1971. They’re the only HBCU program to be 12-0 in the Division I-AA/FCS era. What a game! N.C. A&T caps undefeated season with Celebration Bowl win Stellar play by longtime teammates Lamar Raynard and Marquell Cartwright won it for the Aggies, 21-14By Rhiannon Walker @instantrhiplay December 16, 2017The 2017 Celebration Bowl must have felt like deja vu all over again for North Carolina A&T quarterback Lamar Raynard and running back Marquell Cartwright. Four years ago, when Cartwright and Raynard were at High Point Andrews, this same situation played out. Raynard, who threw a 38-yard touchdown pass with 1:02 remaining for his high school’s North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2-AA title game, ran the ball in from 1 yard out to give the Aggies a 21-14 win over Grambling State on Saturday. 12-0! Aggies Win Celebration Bowl, Finish Season Undefeated
ATLANTA, Ga. - North Carolina A&T State quarterback Lamar Raynard culminated a seven-play, 56-yard scoring drive with a one-yard sneak with 38 seconds remaining to lift the Aggies of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) to a hard-fought 21-14 win over Grambling State, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion, in the third annual Celebration Bowl Saturday before a crowd of 25,873 at Mercedes Benz Stadium. The victory gave the MEAC a 2-1 lead in the three-year old bowl, with NC A&T getting both wins. Coach Rod Broadway’s team also played in the inaugural event in 2015 and came away with a 41-34 victory over the SWAC’s Alcorn State. With the win, the Aggies completed a perfect 12-0 season, while the loss dropped Grambling’s final 2017 record to 11-2. The Aggies became the first MEAC school to compile a 12-0 campaign, including the postseason. 12-0 ... THAT'S JUST PERFECT!! Courtesy: NC A&T Sports Information Release: 12/16/2017
A&T 21, Grambling 14
ATLANTA (December 16, 2017) – In Major League Baseball, the unbreakable record appears to be Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak. In the NBA, it is perhaps Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 points. On Saturday, America may have witnessed another unbreakable record happen in sports, live on ABC. In the world of black college football, where teams must play Division I-FBS programs (who are sometimes named Florida State, Clemson and Arkansas) for revenue, the seventh-ranked North Carolina A&T Aggies football team went an undefeated 12-0, won the Black College Football National Championship and improved to 2-0 in the third edition of the Celebration Bowl with a 21-14 win over No. 12 Grambling State (11-2) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It may be a while before an unbeaten team emerges from black college football. “I'm just extremely proud of our players and the job our coaching staff has done,” said N.C. A&T coach Rod Broadway. “It's an awesome feeling right now to be 12-0 and to win our second national championship in three years at A&T. I'm happy for our school. We've come a long way.” Yes Lawd. N.C. A&T is the first-ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference school to finish the entire season undefeated. They are the first Division I-AA black college football team to finish a season unbeaten and untied and they broke the school and conference record for wins with 12. Fake spike helps North Carolina A&T make history with first undefeated season By: Michelle R. Martinelli | December 16, 2017 4:15 pm The Celebration Bowl between FCS teams North Carolina A&T Aggies and Grambling Tigers was as close and exciting as it could have been, until the Tigers used a bit of fast trickery to grab the go-ahead touchdown with less than a minute left. N.C. A&T quarterback Lamar Raynard faked a spike with about a minute remaining in the game and turned it into a 15-yard pass to Elijah Bell, getting the Aggies to the Tigers’ 3-yard line. After a short 2-yard gain, Raynard came up big again and pushed himself forward across the goal line with just 38 seconds left to secure his team’s second HBCU national championship in three years. N.C. A&T won, 21-14. For the rest of the story: ftw.usatoday.com/2017/12/north-carolina-at-grambling-hbcu-national-championship-undefeated-celebration-bowl

m.ncataggies.com/mobile/ViewArticle.dbml?atclid=211689910&DB_OEM_ID=24500&A&T Is The Hottest Thing Going Today From the article A couple of great paragraphs to express how the football team noticed and appreciate the fans: “I want to thank all our fans,” said N.C. A&T quarterback Lamar Raynard, the offensive player of the year in the MEAC. “When you look at our side, it was packed out. I appreciate the fans coming out to support us. We had our ups and downs during the game, but they’re always with us. That’s the beauty of this team, we’re fighters.” Saturday was not a bandwagon situation. Aggies love their football. Aggie Pride was on full display throughout the season, even on the road. What makes the Aggies 12-0 season amazing was the fact that the Aggies played four of their first five games on the road. In all four of those games, it could be argued that Aggie fans outnumbered the home fans. In fact, it could be argued that the only road game where the Aggie fans didn’t compete for attendance supremacy was at Florida A&M on Oct. 14. It was the Rattlers homecoming. “Our people show up big time,” said N.C. A&T coach Rod Broadway. “We got to Gardner-Webb, we outnumber them. We go to UNC Charlotte, we outnumber them. Most places we go, our numbers are strong. Our fans are really supportive.”
