A rising senior. Why is he transferring?? How tall is he. 6-7... Looks to be a good finisher. Youngstown St went 8-24 after changing coaches. They had a scoring PG who led their team in scoring at 15 ppg and a big under 4 apg, but shot 37% from the field. If your new coach allows that philosophy and you finish 5 games worse than you did the previous year.... I'd think about transferring too. The fact that we recruited him out of HS, finished last year with 20 wins and would have a true pass-first PG in Kam Langley as a junior getting him the ball. And Haygood looks the type of a good above-the-rim finisher with the right PG. It looks like we're gradually moving away from recruiting the bigger post-up big like Femi (who is always going to be the target of bigger schools) and going for the more available slender, mobile bigs who can fit the style of our PG and do multiple things on defense. It makes sense.

They've just brought in a new coach who has blown everything up and is changing their style from up tempo to more half court. Some six different players have been granted their releases this past week. Haygood is a long 6-7.

www.vindy.com/news/2018/mar/22/three-players-leave-ysu-mens-basketball-team/Three Players Leave YSU Basketball TeamYoungstown State has granted the release of sophomores Braun Hartfield and Jeremiah Ferguson as well as freshman Jacob Brown. All three players intend to transfer. Verbalcommits.com first reported the story. Hartfield would have been the team's returning leading scorer with 13. 7 points per game in the 2017-18 season. Jeremiah Ferguson started the year as the starting point guard, but he broke his nose in the season opener, missing a few games and never reclaiming that role. He finished the year averaging 4.3 points per game. Brown appeared in 10 games this season, averaging 5.4 minutes in that stretch. The departures leave head coach Jerrod Calhoun with only two players left that were brought in by his predecessor, Jerry Slocum. Junior Devin Haygood can return next season, while senior Francisco Santiago needs a hardship waiver from the NCAA to come back. The Penguins are waiting for word from the NCAA on Santiago's status. www.vindy.com/news/2018/mar/23/three-ysu-players-will-not-return/Three YSU players will not returnYoungstown State has lost its returning leading scorer, one of its backup point guards and a member of head coach Jerrod Calhoun’s first recruiting class. The university confirmed on Thursday that forward Braun Hartfield, point guard Jeremiah Ferguson and forward Jacob Brown asked for and were granted their releases from the program. The trio intends to transfer. Through athletic department spokesperson Jamie Hall, Calhoun declined to comment. Hall said it was university policy not to discus athlete transfers. Messages left with the athletes weren’t returned. Barring any more moves, junior forward Devin Haygood is the only player from the Slocum era that is a lock to return to YSU next year. Santiago — another Slocum player — needs a hardship waiver to come back.
