No doubt. Between the juniors Cartwright and Williams, then the two redshirt freshmen in Johnson and Baker and now adding Smith into the mix, we'll have more than enough solid running backs to choose from in spring practice next month.

McNeill ready to be an Aggie
Scots all-conference DB excited for next step By Amber Hatten - ahatten@civitasmedia.com
LAURINBURG — There are very few moments when Scotland football players smile — winning a state championship, beating Richmond and signing on the dotted line to accept a Division I football scholarship. Senior Amir McNeill, along with five of his teammates, took part in National Signing Day on Wednesday morning as high school players from across the country signed their letters of intent to play college football. Amir couldn’t help but smile surrounded by his family and coaches as he signed his letter of intent to play Division I football for North Carolina A&T State University. One of the starting defensive backs for the Scots this season, the six-foot tall senior said when he visited the campus and met with the coaches he knew he wanted to be an Aggie. Four Cavalier football players sign
Wednesday Posted Feb 1, 2017 at 7:31 PM By Eric Boynton, eric.boynton@shj.comFour Dorman football players signed Wednesday to play in college, including a pair who will remain teammates at the next level. Quarterback Jalen Fowler and kicker Davis Rogers will both attend North Carolina A&T while offensive lineman Ben Bernstein signed with Lenoir-Rhyne and receiver Andrew Storch will play at University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky. “There is a lot of hard work that is represented here today and I’m very excited,” Storch said. “It’s a real great feeling just knowing that I don’t have to give something up that I’ve loved doing since I was a little kid. I want to keep playing football as long as I can, so I’m really looking forward to going up there.” Fowler said he’s believed since his elementary and middle school days that if he kept a solid worth ethic, he had what it took to play in college. “I always had that confidence and just knew if I kept working hard my time would come and I took advantage of my opportunities,” Fowler said. “I’m blessed. That’s really it. I always stayed true to myself and all my teammates and coaches were always there for me and without them I don’t know if I’d be here.” For the rest of story: www.goupstate.com/sports/20170201/four-cavalier-football-players-sign

Rocky Mount High's Greene, Richardson and Sanders sign with South Carolina, N.C. A&T and Charleston Southern
By Ethan Joyce Sports Writer Thursday, February 2, 2017Three Rocky Mount High football players took prideful steps toward college on Wednesday. And all three of them recognized the community pride that was behind them for the journeys that got them there. Linebacker Sherrod Greene, lineman Artavious Richardson and running back BJ Sanders — all vital parts to the 2015 3-A state title and the 2016 state runner-up teams — shuffled around the Rocky Mount gymnasium to chat with family, friends and teammates after a National Signing Day celebration. They goofed around in photos and laughed at one another between the moments. The three Gryphons inked with Division I programs on Wednesday. Greene signed with South Carolina, Richardson signed with N.C. A&T and Sanders signed with Charleston Southern. for the rest of the story: www.rockymounttelegram.com/High-Schools/2017/02/02/Rocky-Mount-High-s-Greene-Richardson-and-Sanders-sign-with-South-Carolina-N-C-A-T-and-Charleston-Southern.html

Signing Day: Eastern Guilford trio knows best options
Wednesday Posted Feb 1, 2017 at 12:25 PM By Conor O'Neill Times-News
GIBSONVILLE — All three Eastern Guilford seniors who signed with college football programs Wednesday knew what they wanted. Spencer Clapp wanted to play for a Power 5 Conference school, hence the flip to Wake Forest from Appalachian State. Kyin Howard, after first not wanting to go to North Carolina A&T because it would be too close, took an official visit and found it was exactly where he wanted to be. And Bryant Barr wants a chance to play offense, so he committed to Campbell and signed with the Camels after decommitting from Western Carolina on Sunday. Demons’ Ruiz to get his kicks at NC A&T Posted Wednesday, February 1, 2017 11:57 pm By Paul Durham Sports EditorJust a couple of years ago, Fike High senior Noel Ruiz hoped he would be able to attend college by his ability to kick a ball. The former Golden Demons soccer standout, however, had an abrupt change of course, starting last fall when he emerged as a premier kicking specialist for the Fike football team. Ruiz’s development came to fruition Wednesday when he signed a National Letter of Intent to kick for North Carolina A&T State University of the NCAA Division I FCS Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Aggies of head coach Rod Broadway, coming off a banner season that saw them finish 9-3 and earn a No. 20 national ranking, won the battle for Ruiz, who was offered by other FCS programs North Carolina Central, Campbell, Elon and Western Carolina. He was also pursued by Big Ten Conference power Penn State as a preferred walk-on. “Basically, I kind of narrowed it down to the process with A&T and Central,” Ruiz explained. “They’re both quality programs in the MEAC. Last year, A&T won the Celebration Bowl and they’re always a powerhouse. So, honestly, it fit in best for me coming in. Their kicker’s graduating and I can come in and be there all four years. I can even punt.” uiz said that Broadway and his staff worked the hardest at recruiting him. “I felt at the end of the day, I was more comfortable at A&T,” he said. “I enjoyed the guys there; they are like a family, And they recruited me the hardest. The coaches were calling me every week and they came down about four or five times. The head coach came down to my house and we had dinner. I could tell that they wanted me more than anybody. That drew me in and from that point on, I kind of knew that’s where I wanted to be here.” The son of Edith Serrano and Santos Ruiz of Elm City intends to major in business at A&T. Jeff Mills: Aggies continue building on their success
By Jeff Mills jeff.mills@greensboro.com
GREENSBORO — The rebuilding project at N.C. A&T is over. Now the Aggies football program is simply building. A&T hosted a reception for alumni and fans on National Signing Day, a holiday of sorts for college football, when everyone is excited and hopeful for the next season. It’s easy to get excited when you’re winning. “We’ve gotten somewhat ebullient as far as who we’re recruiting,” A&T coach Rod Broadway said. “I say that, because the first couple of years here, we would drive down Benbow Road and throw scholarships out the window hoping to find someone. “And now we’re competing for players against App State, UNC-Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, The Citadel, Old Dominion, people like that. We haven’t competed much against other teams in the MEAC. We’ve upgraded our recruiting in the types of kids we bring in.” Broadway and his staff are bringing in a recruiting class of 17 players — five of them already are enrolled for the spring semester — to add to a program that finished the 2016 season ranked No. 20 in both the FCS Coaches Poll and the STATS Top 25 national rankings. Jeff Mills is starting to take care of us in the press... because "ebullient" wasn't the word used last night. He could have put it in brackets so that was folks would have known that something else was said. But he did what he should do... cleaned it up nicely for Coach Broadway in print. That's a good thing.
