Now that you mention it, I remember that it was empty when we walked around it.

Hopefully, archived somewhere, to be placed later in the new upgrade to the athletic facility where they appropriately belong. They may not fit well in the new student center.

Just wanted to give a shout out to Dr. Martin and the Board for their vision and commitment to the A&T students. I've been on campus several times since the new Student Union opened and I'm fascinated to see the students enjoying it. If you are a diehard Aggie, you've got to visit the new Union. It's more than a building, it's a statement.

They refer to it as the student center. Most universities and colleges now days refer to them as student centers. The first "so-called union" was the underground space at old Crosby Hall. You had to go down a number of steps to get into it. Crosby Hall had a small bell tower on top of the building which housed the band room, post office and bookstore. One or two classes may have been taught in the building. Old band heads wood have loved it, because it allowed the members to show their stuff marching back to Crosby Hall, after leaving the practice field (Williams Cafeteria space).

Good campus history, SIXTIESAGGIE! My parents told me about where the first Union was located...they were in school from 1952-1956. I've been trying to find old pictures of it in yearbooks. I've seen pictures of Crosby Hall from back them and a few photos taken inside o it.

The original design had a basement level also. Similarly, the original design of Aggie Stadium was an all concrete U-shaped structure. Budget cuts are part of the game, Wow Concrete? Yes...concrete. And I have the original design of the stadium (in my storage unit in Charlotte). Not a copy of the design...the actual original design.

Is it the model that sat in the atrium of the old Student Union? That pre-fab concrete design was cheaper at that time, than the erector set design that we have today. It was a great idea and the people behind the fundraising effort did a great job, but couldn't get enough alums and friends to buy in to the idea. Those were the folks needed to help raise the funds to build the stadium in the original design. Dr. Smith and his office did a yeoman's job in trying to make the stadium a reality. Eventually, with the world wide adjustment of oil prices, the cost to do anything quadrupled. The cost to build anything soared. Remember the days of 25 cents per gallon for regular gas, 30 cents for premium.
