Wow! That's one of my classmates. Congrats, Mr. Cannon! This doesn't surprise me one bit.

By the way, when I went to the A&T vs. UNC-C basketball game last Saturday night, an associate of mine called me over to introduce me to the Charlotte Mayor, Patrick Cannon. When he stuck his hand out to shake mine, I said "Aggie Pride" and he responded with "Aggie Pride!" So why am I bringing up this little encounter? Because the guy that introduced me to Cannon is married to UNC-C's lobbyist! So the Mayor of Charlotte (an Aggie) sat next to her in great reserved seats the entire basketball game. Now I have no idea it this was just a friendly gesture on UNC-C's part or if this will in any way have an impact on what the city of Charlotte does for UNC-C. But it did make me wonder if anyone from A&T's administration has reached out to Mayor Cannon. Don't know what might come out of that meeting but it couldn't hurt. We don't normally have access to official in key positions so this might be an opportunity we should take advantage of. The last Black Mayor from Charlotte is now Secretary of Transportation. We got enough politicians in Raleigh and other places working against us...we need to find a few that might be on our side.

Not trying to be disagreeable but from a practical standpoint, we will really need some kind concrete purpose before suggesting a meeting with public officials. Without a turely identifiable issue of import to justify a face-to-face, it would be like trying to get a criminal magistrate or a judge to issue a search warrant without probable cause.
A waste of everyone's time and loss of creditability.

A waste of everyone's time and loss of creditability. As a business owner I live by the motto..."Dig your well before you're thirsty." Cannon is an Aggie...we don't need an "identifiable issue" to meet and congratuate him. Who knows if we will ever need him in the future but I believe in establishing a relationship in advance just in case. Hey I don't know if he has any political capital but you never know if you don't make the connection. He may not be in a position to get the city to help A&T but he may be able to open some doors at some of the corporations based in Charlotte. And that's where the real money is and A&T doesn't get a sniff of those funds. You may be 100% right but I still make that contact.

I agree if nothing else maybe he can help us establish a better tie with the banking community in Charlotte as it relates to our career planing and recruitment center.

If integrity is not your strong suit, don't lead.

Yeah, it's ugly. Was featured last night on the NBC Nightly News (6:30 pm edition) and was compared with the situation in Detroit with Kilpatrick. And he was in office for only 115 days! smh
