That kid has some serious skills for an 11 year old but he is pretty short for his age. Hicks is more of a prospect at 8 than that kid is at 11. He'll be in high school in three years and he still will be under 5'6. One thing you can't coach is size and speed. thrilla, this kid is "already" playing high school ball at 11 years old and only 4'7" tall! that's what makes him so unique, imo. he's at both an age disadvantage and a size disadvantage. yet, he's holding his own playing high school ball. he probably won't grow to be taller than 5'6" tall, but his skillset and "quickness" will enable him to have a long career in basketball. if mugsy can play in the nba at 5'3" tall, i can see this kid playing in the nba 10 years from now even against all odds. i'm just so "facinated" by this kid's skillset for his size at 11 years old...

What was the big event in Charlotte a couple of weeks before nationals. I thought that was the regionals. Nope, that was just an invitational track meet. I forgot the name of it. We normally dont do Charlotte meets because they try to squeeze tons of events in to one day and you end up being there until like 10pm. Ridiculous. Noah Rogers(my guy) won the USATF NC State meet in the 100m with ease. I feel Hick's his pain though, because Noah got DQ'd at the State meet in the 200m dash for running out his lane in the curve. If not for that it, he might have brought that home also. Hicks didn't win the 200. What you were watching was the qualifying heat. He actually finished 8th in the final. That 35sec time makes me think he stumbled again. Thats not a very good time for the 200m national finals. www.usatf.org/events/2013/USATFJuniorOlympicTFChampionships/results/F52.aspHe finished 3rd in the 400m.

Mr Hicks : The young man has and up side on the track and it is going to be intresting to see what he dose in the coming years. We have a young lady 9 years old that ran an 13.5 -100m, 34.5-200m at her regional in WACO Tx last weekend in Dallas. She is from a littleTown called Hearn about 15000 live in the hold town and get this they don't even have a good Track to work out on. She had to work out in the street running against her in older sister who is going to TCU on a track scholarship. Her parents could not afford to get her on a the local USATF team are get her in the State games of Tx. So they had a meet in Dallas for the kids that did't have the money for the USATF and the State games in Corpus. We are getting her hooked up with Team Tx for the indoor season. Also that young B-Ball player is the closes to a young Pewwe Karkland from Back in the Day! That young man will play @ a Big program someday and maybe the NBA

Jailen was undefeated all season in the 400m until the Junior Olympics. He is the state champion in the 200 and 400m and silver medalist in the 100m. He is the National Outdoor Champion in the 100 and 400m; as well as the silver medalist in the 200m. He was the silver medalist in the 400 at the junior olympics. He had a few mishaps in the finals....but he made it there in all 3 running events! Thats pretty rare! Oh, and did I mention that he broke the 200m record at the Blunt meet that he was the MVP of? The kid has been truly Blessed!

Hicks son is only going get better. He is losing so much energy and wasted motion with his upper body. I played WR at A&T a few years before Hicks and actually met him for the first time at the USATF Championships in Greensboro. I recognized his face and when they called his sons name over the intercom. I knew it was him. His son is definitely fast. Any kid that made it to the semi's is fast in my opinion. I get what the posters meant by start recruiting him now. As A&T would have more of a connection with Jalen because of his dad. Once my daughters made it to the USATF Championships they asked if the band was going to be there. I thought hmmmm, A&T probably could've easily got some recruits by having them playing at some point. You know how the band and atmosphere can influence a kid. It was a lot of talent there with multi-sport athletes from across the nation. I actually spoke to A&T's track coach briefly and introduced my girls at the beginning of the week. He was kind of well okay. We someone on staff advised him that I played in the 90's. To make a long story short my oldest made it to the semi's in the 11-12 year 400m as a 11 year old. My 8 year old went on to win the 200, 400, and long jump. She would've won the 100m too, if they would've allowed her to compete. Right now they have the next man speed. They run just fast enough to beat the person beside them. They would love to go to A&T, but when we asked they said no because they want to play soccer. Well now that A&T has a soccer program coming they might reconsider. However, they do remember how the coach acted when he first met them. Then on the other hand after my 8 year old won the 200m dash right after breaking the national record in the LJ and breaking the 400m national record for then, because she broke again during the finals on Sunday. Tennessee's head track coach stopped and actually spoke to her congratulated her and told her to keep working hard, as well as several other D1-A coaches. All with a smile on her face while giving her a pat on her back with a thumbs up. My daughter was like daddy who was that and I told her. She was thrilled for a few minutes walking back to the tent. From that point on UT's coach would wave or smile at her every time she saw us walking around. Now I don't know what the future holds but that gesture could be huge difference later on down the road. If they are still running when they get older and doing fairly well or playing soccer.

In the end this can be a pay off for the coach more so then for the school that he/she are coaching at with younger athletes . Because by the time they are being recruited the coach may have moved on to a different program.

The apple sure doesn't fall far from the tree...a mini Mo. He looks just like his dad with the same results.

ya'll think hicks' kid is a phenon? then you need to see this 11 year old basketball player! check this out. guys, i've seen a lot of basketball in all my days, trust me. but i've "never, ever, ever" seen anything like this before in my entire life! you've got to see this to believe it! there's this " 11 year old" kid who is only 4 foot 7 inches tall, who is skilled enough to hold his own against some of the best 15 and 16 year olds in the country. i mean, its incredible enough to be that short and still hold your own. but to also be 4 or 5 years younger than your competition too? and they're some of the best in the country on top of that? simply unbelievable!! here's the article, but checkout the video below. that's the only way you'll believe this article, courtesy of yahoo sports... sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highschool-prep-rally/11-old-julian-newman-stars-9th-10th-grade-102108737.htmlJulian Newman is still 11 years old, and he’s still a member of the Orlando (Fl.) Downey Christian High basketball team. This is his first summer on the proper prep hoops summer circuit, and he’s largely stayed below the hype that tends to follow any media darlings at major national events.
However, he didn’t elude the cameras at the recent ScoutsFocus All-American Camp. Competing against a handful of the nation’s top 9th and 10th graders, Newman shone, handing out dimes just like he did against the Florida private school athletic competition he tore apart all winter.
In fact, Newman was watched by Rivals.com RecruitScoop writer Alex Kline and a handful of other national recruiting writers, and none of them batted an eye at watching a soon-to-be 6th grader battle against athletes that seemed to be twice the size of the 4-foot-7 point man.
Newman’s performance was notable because it essentially validates what everyone saw on highlight reels this winter: He’s a serious player. At the ScoutsFocus event, Newman matched up against the likes of 13-year-old fellow phenom Damon Harge and Sacha Killeya-Jones, among the top recruits in the Class of 2016.
somebody brought this thread back up and it reminded me of this kid from a couple of years ago. thought i'd look him up at age 13, two years older than the video above and i found this...
