I don't have a dog in this fight. My question is, if they were in 1st place, would it have been ok? If it was Cy or Terrell who missed a game to go recruiting, would it be ok? Just a thought... AGREED!I got distracted and neglected to complete my post, which should have ended with, "...but you cannot miss games and in-season practices to go out and recruit." Attachments:

I'm ok with a recruiting trip in season considering we aren't really contending for anything. Overall I think he's simply trying to copy the blueprint they used at BCU which relied heavily on recruiting from the Puerto Rican Baseball Academies. I don't have a problem unless he comes back empty handed! ;D

We don't know all the facts on his reasoning are why he went to PR really??? It is hard to believe that a coach would leave his team to go that far on a recruiting trip in season. It most be more to it then what we are hearing. I just need more facts to believe this!!!

It seems as though the person that started this thread has a personal stake in the baseball team. Additionally, the comment about players not speaking english has slight undertone of racism or being upset because the coach is recruiting non-American players. SMH

The issue would be it wasn't a rebuilding program they returned a lot of players that were good and its as if they are getting worse. In time it will pan out good or bad. UNCG is an important game and for him not to be there for it does look bad. Never heard of head man missing games to recruit hope they are big time prospects if that is the case. I have no doubt things will pan out and we will know soon enough. Let him get his guys. And who cares where they are from as long as they can play and make the grades.

Hey if I was head coach of any team at A&T and we sucked and I had a chance to get some players to help us win (and keep my job) I'd miss a game or two. And in my book, UNCG is a game for "bragging rights" but it's not that "important." Beating Cookman is an important game.
As I understand it, this is our baseball coach's second year in the job. Let's give him a year or two more to get his players and build his team. And if the team doesn't get any better than we've seen lately, don't worry Hit Man Hilton will take care of him!

Sam 31 - STOP IT! STOP IT! GIVE THE MAN A CHANCE. WE DID BEAT BETHUNE THIS YEAR AND THAT IS SOMETHING WE AIN'T DID IN YEARS. IF HE DID GO TO P R HE HAD TO HAVE A REASON. IF IT PAYS OFF - IT WAS WORTH IT.
STOP IT YALL - GIVE THE MAN A CHANCE. ... DUKE GAVE MIKE K A CHANCE AND HIS RECORD WAS HORRIBLE HIS FIRST SEVERAL YEARS. LOOK AT HIS RECORD NOW.

If you say give him time. There are plenty of good players around in the area. Why bring a guy in that cannot speak in English and don't stay but one year at A&T. That's a wasted scholarship. He also didn't attend in the alumni game. Let me start off by saying I don't know much about baseball and I've only attended two A&T baseball games in my life. And in the A&T games I attended we didn't play well at all! That said, I say give the coach more time to build his team. As for a player quitting, heck that will happen. Until we have the "transcripts" of the conversation that went down, I'm giving the coach the benefit of doubt. As for recruiting foreign ball players, hell that's what everyone is doing. I've seen enough sports special on TV to know that there are tons of talented baseball players in Latin countries. As far as recruiting talented ball players locally, there's too much competition for the few good players out there. Now these next comments will be a bit negative but it needs to be discussed...go to a few local high school ball games and see who the stars are. Most of the players and talented athletes on the baseball team are white. Now why there are not more brothers playing baseball is a topic for another day. You may find a few brother but very few. And the chances of us getting one of those talented white guys to play at A&T is next to impossible. And if the few brothers on the team have real talent, they will be heavily recruited by ACC or SEC schools too. Now I think we should continue to recruit "all" talented baseball players but we also need to be realistic too. If our coach can find some winning players that English is their second language, I ain't mad at him.

Hello guys. New to forum and this is a very interesting thread. First as a baseball dad of an African American ball player I take a little offense to the previous statement "if black ball players had any real talent they would be playing in SEC or ACC. Would it be fair to make the same statement for Aggie football and basketball players?? My son has been playing baseball since he was 5 or 6 and while it is true there were never a lot of black kids playing ball. He always held his own and most times was the best player on team. Baseball has had 2 players drafted over the last three years and will have a third after this season. How many kids in the same timeframe have been selected in basketball and football. Two players made all American last year. D1 all American , not HBCU all American or D2 all American. The same all American squad with ACC and Sec players. Fact of the matter is very good black position players get overlooked, these guys are living proof. The name of the game is pitching and that is what separates us from great baseball programs. You do not see a lot of black kids pitching and the elite ones go pro or to established programs. If we can get some Latin pitchers, or white kids that were overlooked which is what made BCU successful we can play with anyone.

Sorry but I also forgot a 3rd player who graduated 2 years ago who was not drafted but should have been just signed minor league deal with braves. All the guys I reference are black kids who go to A&T but were overlooked by Major baseball programs. I believe there are these kind of position players out there who are looking for an opportunity to play ball and prove those who did not recruit them wrong. Granted there are not a lot of them. There are even less African American kids who can pitch on a D1 level competitively so to be successful you have to look for players, especially pitching in other places or races. Just my opinion. The team this year is gonna be fun to watch. They play hard and have shown a lot of heart so far. I think with some good pitching and defense they can make some noise in the Meac. Please come out and support these young man. Regardless of what you think of the hiring decision these young men are Aggies representing the school we care so much about.
