Before we hit the road back home this morning let me give my two cents worth.
Missing those three backup defensive lineman left us with only one kid to rotate out along the defensive front. In that kind of humidity last night, our kids were flat worn out on defense and were cramping up like crazy by the middle of the fourth quarter from fluid loss and not getting a blow.
Our linebackers are indeed good but the line wasn't fresh enough to keep CCU off the double teams off their trap option running game or generate a consistent pass rush to put any pressure on him like I know we can.
The reason for this loss? Six guys who put themselves ahead of their team. You want to pin blame?
Well I'm don't have to say anything else that they didn't hear from the coaches all week and from many of the alums and fans in the stands last night after the game that were ticked off by these guys actions off the field.
At full strength, we probably bring this game home in a squeaker. Those six have a lot of making up to do to make things right with their teammates, coaches, and A&T fans.
My hat is off to the kids that tried their best despite losing that many difference makers but if the upperclassmen want to act out and not show any maturity and make the proper decisions, I would have no problem if Coach Broadway went again with the young guys again next week.
Quick is going to be a serious quarterback with more experience and he wasn't bad at all for his first collegiate start and or even his first game for that matter.
Yes, he made three key ill-advised throws and slipped on the back breaking safety in the early fourth but he worked the last 1:49 of the first half like a seasoned vet with his clock management and runs and throws to get us back in it at halftime.
The bullet to Raper on the last play of the half between to defenders was a glimpse of the future as he develops. One thing you can't teach is speed and he got plenty of that.
Marquis Gorham and Tony McRae are going to be monster players as the season goes along.
Zach Cigmilia is about as fine of a kicker I've seen in twenty plus years in an A&T uniform and I am not joking. I have never witnessed anyone kick the ball out of the end zone from a free kick from their own twenty, ever, pro or college.
Every kickoff at least a couple of yards deep or better into the end zone or out of it, every punt booming 50 plus yards with hang time and height somewhere near the stratosphere and leg strength to get there on FGs from 50 yards without any problem.
He's special.

You play with the guys you have, that's football or any other sports. "Would haves", if's and but's don't count for anything. To say Kindle would have made a difference is only conjecture after the fact about a guy who makes mistakes off the field and he is suppose to be your leader.
The next two games will be used to get the players ready for conference play that you can count on being on the field.

I cannot agree aggiejazz...I get what you are saying, but, A&T did play with the guys they had and you see what it got them. But, if your starting qb can't play that's going to restrict to some degree what you want to do from an offensive perspective. Our coaching staff took the last week to get Quick ready for the start, but they had been in camp for 4 weeks already where the starter was taking the first team reps. Not an excuse but a reality...I expect Kindle to come out and dominate the next two games. Of course, that will leave us thinking...if, coulda, woulda and shoulda, that's what fans do. We want to play with the players we have, sure we do...but, we want to play with the BEST players we have right now. That wasn't the case last night.

We lost this game because we couldn't control the line of scrimmage. The o-line and d-line both played like garbage. Also our db's cannot play 10 yards off of receivers and expect to stop anybody. Coastal isn't that good and it wouldn't shock me if they only win a few more games. We've got a lot to work to do. Whenever the kicker is the lone bright spot you know its not good.

I posted this before and I will say it again You can not win in football with out controlling the O-line & D-line of scrimmage I don't care who your RB's, WR's,Db's or QB's are You get the lines on point and the rest will take care of it's self Your D-line has to bring Heat and your O-line has to keep the heat off the runners and QB If they er not working game over

The db's can't be blamed because there was no pressure on the qb. They can't cover guys for four or five seconds.

I find it hard to believe that people don't think that our practice restrictions make a difference. it had a major impact on our performance last night. no 1 seems to ever mention it.
I think before we start criticizing anybody on the team we need to take into account that we do not practice as much as other teams do...

Coastal was just a better team regardless of circumstances; however the score should have been closer.

Bottom line is we wud have had to play a "near" perfect game to have beaten Coastal.
That being said, when you cannot run the ball nor get movement from your line on defense any team is in for a long day. Coastal was MUCH bigger and better on BOTH sides of the line and outweighed us by 20-30 lbs (each linesman).
We cud not establish a run game and Quick WAS pretty much our chief run producer. That is putting too much pressure on a first game starting freshman QB. Kindle has a better arm at this point but is not nearly as mobile as Quick.
I think it is somewhat a wake up call to football reality for us.
Now it is back to playing two cupcakes at home and we can work on some things. However, reality is that in the OVERALL picture of things we still have a LONG way to go. Our mind set should be on championships not anything else. Dr. Martin said over two years ago that what he wanted for X-Mas was a "winning football season". Well, what he should have said was he wanted a "championship football season".
I fully understand how low our football program was in but in order to get it done we have to step it up. All the talk about D-1 classification...think about it. Savannah St., who was picked to contend for the MEAC title, was stomped by Okla. St. yesterday 84-0. We get beaten more soundly than the score by two touchdowns by Coastal (no powerhouse).
My hats off to the coaches and team for the progress we have made and they will always be my peeps but lets not get too overly excited when we beat these two "fish smanch" schools (U of Va-Lynchburg and WVA State) our next two games. Just being real!!

I agree with both aggie2ru and OSA about the teams play. But a word of caution don't take anyone/team lightly... We should go into the next remaining games as if we are out for blood.

Coastal came into the game to stop the run, they did. We should have expected it. Coastal's coach said the freshman would have to beat them with his arm, he didn't. They executed their game plan, we didn't.
I agree with what's been said about the controlling the line of scrimage, we were manhandled that's why we couldn't run the ball!
Let's move on!

Sidenote : Did anyone else notice Kindle's behavior in the stands last night . If his actions last night are an indication of his leadership skills we might be in trouble . He came in the stadium about the middle of the first quarter, he posted up along the wall right behind the A&T bench . At first he was just walking back and forth calling out guys , maybe trying to pump them up . But after about ten minutes are so , I think he was just a distraction . Every time Quick came off the field he was shouting " Quick ,come here Quick , somebody tell Quick to come here" . The coaches were trying to coach and he was calling players over trying to tell them stuff , not good .

Part 2 : After 15 minutes or so , the guy on the event staff with the red shirts , came over and asked him to move or sit down , Kindle just ignored him and walked off . Another ten minutes or so went by and campus police came and said something to him, again he walked away , the cop sorta grabbed him by the arm , Kindle snatched away and said something with that look on his face like "don't f**k with me " , and I thought for a split second there was going to be an altercation . If it wasn't for some Aggies nearby telling him to chill out there probably would have been an altercation. He finally walked away and went under the bleachers. In the second half the campus cop had to come and tell him and I believe Terrence Webb to sit down again .

I can't say because I was not their but maybe he was trying to help Quick By pointing out somethings that the coaches missed Some times players can point out mistakes to other players in away that they will understand

Part 3 : His actions did not bode well with me . I think he was only trying to call attention to himself , but he definitely wasn't helping the team . Players need to be focused on the game and what the coaches are trying to tell them , not what somebody in the stands is trying to tell them. To be a good leader one must first know how to follow, his attitude last night was one of defiance . I'll do what I want to do, no matter what you tell me . I'm sure there were others who witnessed his behavior , and i would love to hear someone's else opinion on this .
