Bios on A&T's East-West Participants

[Aggie One]

The 2012 East-West All-Star Game will be held at Grimsley's Jamison Stadium tomorrow night at 8 p.m. N.C. A&T will have three participants in this year's game. Here are their bios.

Dorian Belcher

Dorian…Southern Durham High…6-1, 210…quarterback…coached by Adrian Jones…as senior, named All-Conference…passed for 1,900 yards 24 TDs…rushed for 12 TDs…as junior, named All-Conference…also played basketball…plans to attend North Carolina A & T State University where he will major in business…wants to own his own business as a sports agent…favorite pro athlete is Patrick Withers…says “I am excited to have the opportunity to get back on the field again. I am hoping to just enjoy the time getting to know my teammates. I am also hoping the East will win.”

Marquis Gorham

Marquis…J.H. Rose High…5-10, 185…running back…coached by Todd Lipe…as senior, named AP All-State, All-Conference, All-County, Pitt County Player of the Year…as junior, named All-Conference, All-County, Army Player of the Week, team MVP…Coaches Award recipient…as sophomore, named All-Conference, All-County, NUC DB MVP…member of National Honor Society…signed an athletic grant-in-aid with North Carolina A & T State University where he will major in journalism and mass communications…wants to pursue a career in the media market…his grandfather, Frank Haddock, is his role model…favorite college athlete is De’Anthony Thomas…favorite pro athlete is Reggie Bush…says “It is a great honor to play in the all-star game. I expect to represent my area well, and I am looking forward to connecting with the other payers on the team.”

Angelo Keyes, Jr.

Angelo…Kinston High…6-1, 239… linebacker… coached by Nick Anderson…as senior, named All-Conference, Conference Defensive Player of the Year, team Defensive MVP, state championship game Outstanding Defensive Player, Kinston High Athlete of the Year…had 74 sole tackles, 60 assisted tackles…also played basketball where he was named All-Conference and state championship game MVP…member of FCA…signed an athletic grant-in-aid with North Carolina A& T State University where he will major in mechanical engineering…wants to pursue a career playing in the NFL…his sister Jessica Reed is his role model…favorite college athlete is Sammie Watkins…favorite pro athlete is Patrick Willis…says he is “very excited and ready to play” in the all-star game, and he expects to gain “exposure and experience

*N.C. A&T also had a school record six signees in this past year's NC-SC Shrine Bowl played last December at Wofford University.

FYI- Two were from SC which are Jovantey Stewart (OL) and (DE) JT Terrell and four from NC in Gorham, Keyes, (QB) Kewshaun Quick and (DB) Isaiah Robinson from Scotland County.

I see where the down-east boys dominated the all-star game, says a lot as for where we need to be doing more recruiting (down-east, baby).

The East team ran the ball down the west throat all night. The West team passed the ball all night. It was hard to judge Belcher's QB ability due to the east running most of the night. He did throw a few passes that showed his arm strength but he was not that accurate when he did throw. Belcher did show some flashes that he could become a good QB. The other QB on the east team was a running QB so he got most of the snaps at QB. Belcher also played DB in the game, and looked good at DB. Gorham really looked good at RB and as a returner. He is going to bring a lot of excitment, especially to our special teams. Gorham also played some DB in this game, and he also looked good at the corner. Keyes played mostly at TE as a blocker for the running game. He did play LB on at least 1 play and he made a solo tackle on that play. Keyes has good size and some of his H.S. coaches at the game stated that he is a better defensive player than a TE. All 3 of these recruits look like they will be welcome additions to out team this season and in the future.

Bigboy...I'm a bit confused. You said Belcher and Gorham looked good at DB, however, you state that the West passed all night. Are you saying they were successful at passing all night and could not run the ball?

The West couldn't run the ball against the East with any consistency. Just too much speed on defense. It was typical of most all-star games, no practice time and so much rotation, its hard to make flat evaluations except about athleticism.

The East ran an exclusive Wing-T which was not suited for spread option QBs like we have now in Belcher, Quick, Barimo, and newly acquired freshman Reggie Parker from South Creek HS from down in Robersonville, another down east kid.

They all will have work to do but arm strength will not be a problem for any of them. Who ever transitions the fastest to the speed of college game, avoids mental errors and picks up Pizzo's offense the best will get the backup job.

There will be a real battle to see who wins that second spot so practice should be a war from Day One. I have my own suspicions as to who will most likely win out as # 2 but I'll wait and see like everyone else how they practice. I can vizualize however two of the four freshmen getting red shirted this year.

Gorham is extremley explosive and surprisingly thicker and more muscular body than he looked on his film. He's ready to play now as a RB or CB although I think he'll be a guy that will line up at a lot of different skill positions on the outside as an offensive athlete.

This kid can flat fly. Special teams, misdirection plays , swings and screens should be real interesting to watch with him in there.

Keyes is a physical speciman and is bigger than what he is listed. He, in time, will be a big help at the middle linebacker spot by the time we get into the meat of the schedule and the Oct-Nov long home stand..

The west passed the ball probably 85% of the time. They completed some passes but for the most part the east played really good pass defence. Good coverage and a lot of pressure on the QB. The east team was just too quick, too fast and too athletic for the west to handle.

Don't forget big boy two touch downs was call back base on Holding call that I think was critical at the junction of the game that kill the west chances of keeping the game competitive.

But I agree you will never could tell how good Dorian was because he never connected any of his passes but he has a lot of potential . I would have like to see him throw pass in the middle while the receiver is going diagonal to see what type of accuracy and touch he has. If this is our #2 guy he has some work to do but I do like the size of his body he seem to be bigger person than Kindle.

I was more impress with gorham how many times did the announcer call his name. That guy has some punt returner skills we will see him on special team this year no question about it.



Keyes was playing out of his natural position as a TE. He was use as a extra OL beside the left Tackle because i never saw them throw any passes to him.
