It does matter who WSSU recruits because we have to recruit against them. Div2 or not, WSSU is a recruiting rival. So is every other Div2 school on the state. They just happen to be the best right now.
As a matter of reference:WSSU has several kids on their current roster that Fobbs and Lee passed on. Said they were "5'7", to small, etc, etc. I know this cause I tried pushing a few their way.
By the way. Jamal Williams is a potent offensive weapon for WSSU and stands about 5'6 at the most. Giovanni Irvine's is NCCU's best receiver 2 years straight at 5'7 tops. Please get some facts before speaking sometimes people.
As far as THIS kid(who the thread was about) goes I can see him getting in and being a little "mighty mouse". He's definitely a player. Especially if we already have the bigger type receivers on the roster. A speed guy can cause match-up issues sometimes. This kid is a flat out player! You can see it in his movements, the way he burst foward when the gap opens on offense, and the way he attacks the ball on defense. He has a straight "get some" mentality. I would recruit him if his grades are good. No doubt. He ruff that big white boy with ease, LOL.

(If we only have 32 scholarships then I'd think we can be a lot more selective. )........exactly.....I am not against taking 5-7 players that are exceptional ( Think Lonnie Harris, Waymon Pitts...), the 5-7 in this discussion player did not seem to be exceptional. Given the make up of your roster, it seems to me that you have enough of those size players...#20, #14 (sat out the year),#3, #25,.#13, and Graham, you may list them as taller, but when you stand next to them......Ten players on the roster are listed as being from Greensboro, does that indicate that Greensboro is not being recruited?
(I trust that Broadway and his staff can recognize good players that will fit their system)...yes, I would like to think so. ...( Read in some rankings post about a player...Some times what looks to be a walk-on may turn out to be your best player (MILES 6-1 180 ) for one. ) The kid from Page would never have hit the field at A&t , he was too slow....How often does a Miles happen? Out of all the walkons at NCA&T in the last few years , how many have been players? I do not mean the p48s that coaches said walked on..Did Miles have an offer to Howard? ....WSSU listed 2 players on their roster as 5-7 or less, both are db's. , Calif (PA listed one...Eliz City had 3, one is 5-4.)

I see your point, but this kids is worth a look. His tape was pretty impressive to me. It's at least worth looking at a couple of FULL games to determine if the highlight film was ALL he did all season. I agree about the Greensboro recruiting. 10 kids from the same city as the college is a HUGE number for a team to have. That doesn't even count Durham, Wake County, nor Charlotte, which are also very close.

if the kid is local, our coaches should give him a serious look. again, it doesn't cost very much to evaluate local talent. there's nothing to lose. it ain't like they have to travel to the west coast to see the kid.
but given our limited number of scholarships, if it were deemed that this kid couldn't help us until 2 years down the road, then i'd be reluctant to offer him a full scholly. maybe a partial would be in line or perhaps bring him onboard as a preferred walk-on. i agree that you can't just look at a kid's size and dismiss him because he's 5'7". hail, hall of famer and former redskin darryl green wasn't much taller than 5'7". but if the kid has very good speed, has very good skills, and has a whole lot of "toughness/heart", then to me he could be a legitimate prospect...

You dudes have no clue.
First of all, the kid is legit 5'9" and 160.
Secondly, the kid has official visits setup for Furman, NCCU, NSU, Tenn Tech and Wofford.
The kid was top 4 db's for Vanderbilt to recruit. U dont recruit size , u recruit ball players!
Now if the kid can play for those schools - then he damn well can play for T.

Good point I agree with you. I look for players that can play right away size has nothing to do with it unless he is a lineman. The kid that QB at Grambling, at WSSU now was only 5'9" if that and look what he did.

One of the best DB's we have had in recent years was James McCoy 5'9" 170lbs. and Devonte Graham (who I hope is back next season) who is about the same size as McCoy.

Well, speaking of size...Broadway had a fella on his team at NCCU out of Hillside by the name of Brandon Alston and stood all of 5'5. However, he played much bigger on the field. He also played on the basketball team for NCCU.

Back in the day(1972) NCCU had this starting RB that had to be 5' 6" are shorter if he was that and about 150lbs. I think that they called him Fly are something like that.

I think the Running back you speak of is Jeff Inman. I'm not THAT old to have seen him play(wasn't even born), but Jeff was a former co-worker of mine. Still crazy as hell. He is 3rd all time rusher for NCCU. Still a small guy and in decent shape to be in his 50s. I used to have to listen to his stories of how he used to kill A&T back in "his day". Everyone I mention him to that saw him play says he was a little fire cracker. Averaged 5.5 per carry. The funny part is Jeff wears cowboy boots a lot now so he can seem taller, LOL.

Today's comments on this page demonstrates why coaches hate to have alumni and fans involved in recruiting. You guys have watched some game tape, read a few stats and... bam, this 5'7" running back is the next Barry Sanders. And to prove this kid is a super star, you list the official college visits to Furman, NCCU, NSU, Tenn Tech and Wofford. Visiting ain't playing so don't get too excited because the kid had "visited" some colleges.
Here's my suggestion... just relax, enjoy some TV and let Broadway do his job this year. Then after the first or second game next fall, let's talk about whether he knows how to recruit. And if he still has lousy players next season you guys can remind me that he should have recruited this 5'7" running back with deceptive speed! And by the way, I trust Broadway's ability to evaluate and recruit talented football players more than any of you guys on this site. Go Aggies!

marchingband It's just good conversation to past the time. Aint that what this site is for? I dont think anyone has the time to TRULY evaluate a kid unless they saw him play personally all season long.
Trusting Broadway aint even what the discussion was about. it was about whether short players can make it in FCS football and when is it OK to offer them a scholarship. And does THIS kid look FCS capable.
Obviously it aint a question of "does Broadway like them?". His starting QB at GSU was 5'9, so he just recruits "players" and not size.
If we all "relax" like you say then you wont have anything to read when you come here. I'm just saying.
Now, back to subject. There is always going to be short guys that can play at a high level at every level. The way some of you guys talk, it shouldnt be a WR under 6'0 playing at any level above Div2 football. Go say that to Steve Smith's face, LOL.
But now that I go back and look at posts. It aint to many people saying they dont like small backs. Just a select few.

THAT WAS INTERESTING WHAT YOU SAID AND IT IS TRUE THAT'S MY JOB TO THE T. HOW DID YOU KNOW . ;D WHAT I SEE ON TAPE HAS HELPED US WIN THE 2009 NJCAA CHAMPIONSHIP (THAT'S WHATS ON MY RING) AND PLACE NUMBERS OF KIDS IN COLLEGE PROGRAMS AROUND COUNTRY... LOL. SO I THINK THAT I DO A GOOD JOB AT EVALUATING TALENT AS DO MOST OF THE GENTS ON THIS THREAD.As Aggie Monster said it's just some thing to talk about to us and I do enjoy the points that we all make (even yours) ..lol
