Oop! The link was broken. We noticed a truly amazing stat from this weekend's game between Bethune-Cookman and North Carolina A&T.
First, a little insight. Bethune-Cookman has a good offense. This season, they put up 63 on Prairie View, 18 against South Carolina State, 35 vs. Hampton and last week they lost to Miami (yes, the U) 45-14. However, in that game vs. Miami they rushed for 219 yards.
Now a little on NC A&T...they have allowed 7 to Lynchburg, 58 to Appalachian State, 31 to Coastal Carolina and 3 to Morgan State.
Going into the game, Bethune-Cookman was averaging nearly 200 yards per game on the ground. NC A&T was allowing an average of nearly 100 yards on the ground.
So, what happened this game? One week after rushing for 219 against Miami's defense, Bethune-Cookman was able to manage just 5 yards on the ground on 25 carries. 5 on 25 carries. They lost 22-3. Proof that every game is different.

Heck, BCU was set up for failure. It's just that few of us noticed it because we're used to them slapping us around.
They just played toe to toe with Miami. They had put 67 on us just last year. Everybody knows we only have around 30 scholarship players. There was no way in hell they could possibly take us seriously.
Meanwhile, with all apologies to the previous coaching staff, this coaching staff is a ton better in every capacity. The kids probably have had this game circled on the calendar for a year. Once a few series passed and we knew we could take them, we took them.
Interesting side stat: Did you know that every Aggie team coached by Bill Hayes that scored 50 on a team one year, lost to that same team the very next year. Every one.

Dooms I normally don't agree with you much but I have to say in both statement you are correct. I never quite looked at how B. was setup in the scenario you formulated. But thats ok I will take a win any way you slice it. I am still suffering from Appalachian game.
This staff in my opinion is the best we ever had. Sam W. and Carl Reeese Defense is superior. Do you remember how Thrillia and others said the only way we would beat teams would be to out score them because of defense would be so terrible in the preseason LOL.

trues, if I cared enough to take the time I could go through these threads and find where y ou have typed that "I normally don't agree with you that much but..." statement well over 10 times.
You actually usually agree with me but you try to cover yourself because it's not popular to admit it.
In any event, you could only agree with thrilla's assessment at the start of the season. Considering what we didn't have, it made sense. The thing is we've gotten so used to teams that don't improve over the course of the season we forgot that it was even possible. I literally don't remember ever seeing an A&T team that improved consistently from week to week. We might get better, but then we'll play a horrible game or three.
I think the kids are hungry and tired of being pushovers and the staff has convinced them that if they work hard and trust what the staff is telling them, they don't have to be pushovers. The staff also is seasoned and knows how to coach. I don't know how many times I tired of reading "the kids are getting what we're teaching them" from coach after coach. I'm glad I haven't read that this year.
Cookman's major mistake was putting all those points on everybody last year. Now everybody wants revenge and it's looking like Jenkins and staff were caught unprepared.

I have always believed that Tee would be just fine and that players will step up. I don't no how many of the DL are on scholarship are just walk-no's but that DL has turned things around for us an I would hope that they continue to play at this Lights Out level. If the Offense continues to play at a controlled pace and cut down on mistakes and allow the Defense rested.
WE'LL BE JUST FINE ARE BETTER.

I don't believe in "We'll be just fine" refrain anthem that I have been hearing for years from Aggies overly hydrated with blue cool-Aid.
A&T football is doing way better than most people thought because of an very good headcoach and a very good coaching staff. You have to give Dr. Martin full credit for pulling the financial trigger to hire this very good coaching staff.

I don't hydrate with cool-Aid ! I'm a Port man!! I look at it this way. We only have 30 are so scholarships and it may be that way for some time. Yes we have won and we will win more. The day I arrived on this site I stated to all that A&T would be just fine and that A&T would Win games. I have never been one of the (most people) that your talking about. I knew that they would win and never stepped back from my statements. I'm a believer and I knew If Broadway was to come to A&T we would win . When Broadway said that he was staying at Gambling. I prayed for him to change his mind. For whatever reason we have him. I also asked the Great one to allow A&T to let Broadway pick his coaching staff and allow Coach Broadway to have Leeway to do his Thing his way. And yes I do use JUST FINE because Until we get back the full Allotment of Scholarships. Being just Fine will have to Do!!

That's not entirely true....although it did shamefully happen a few times, there are some cases that dont follow that pattern, namely NSU '91, MSU '92, WSSU '94, and MSU '96. But during his tenure his teams did lay eggs against BCC, FAMU, Howard and SCSU after beating them pretty badly the year before.

if any of you have directv's premium sports package or have access to directv channel 653, you should catch the replay of this week's coach brian jenkins show. i tivo it every week and this week the show discusses the outcome of the a&t game.
on his show, coach jenkins gave a very "respecting" appraisal of coach broadway and his staff. coach jenkins said after they got home on sunday night, he and his coaches reviewed the a&t film and realized that during the game, bcu did not handle coach broadway's schemes very favorably. in other words, coach jenkins implied that broadway and his staff "out schemed" them during the game and they didn't quite figure what broadway was doing to them during the game "scheme wise" until after they reviewed the film on sunday night.
but speaking of this week's brain jenkins show, on the show coach jenkins owned up to the loss. i give him full credit, he said they got beat point blank, no excuses. but i could tell that that loss was very painful for him. his body language said i'm gonna man up, but i'm hurting over this loss. i don't want to spend a lot of time talking about it, let's move on.
and that's exactly what they did! do you know they didn't show not one single "frame" of footage from the a&t game? nothing! nada! not even a still picture. every week they show highlights of the game that bcu played over the past weekend, except this week. as an aggie, it was kinda funny. but at the same time, i kinda felt sorry for coach jenkins. dude is a class act and i like him. he's so very "passionate" about coaching his team. i could just see all the hurt he was feeling in his facial expressions and body language.
unlike all their other games, there were no highlights of the a&t game shown. and they only discussed the a&t game "briefly" for about the first 5 minutes of the show, and not another word about a&t for the rest of the show. normally they go into details about the games and show first half as well as second half highlights. but this week? zero highlights.
well, i got a feeling that the next team bcu plays is gonna pay dearly. based on what i've seen of coach jenkins every week on his show, he'll have his team on edge against d2 fvsu this weekend...

Also take into consideration they may not have had the film from this game. They may use the film from their opponents production for away game highlights and with our technical difficulties (score box reconstruction) we may have just filmed for the scoreboard shots and dont have production worthy game film.
I watch his broadcast. I would give Jenkins more credit than just to not show any highlights. But then again like saabman said this has to be painful for him.

I was in school for every one of those games except the Morgan game in 96, and I was at every one of those games. Yet I totally forgot about them. Thanks for the correction!
