www.theappalachianonline.com/sports/7743-the-breakdown-with-chris-williams-The breakdown with Chris Williams Wednesday, 07 September 2011 20:11 The Match up On Saturday at 3:30 p.m. North Carolina A&T will travel up the mountain to Kidd-Brewer Stadium, where a hungry Appalachian State team awaits their arrival, desperate for a win and ready put a humiliating loss behind them. Senior quarterback DeAndre Presley completed only seven of 18 pass attempts while throwing two interceptions and fumbling the ball on the opening drive of the game. The Mountaineer offense mustered only 11 first downs on the day in route to a point differential of 53. The Aggies, however, are entering the game 1-0 as they defeated Virginia University of Lynchberg by a score of 38–7. Aggie quarterback Lewis Kindle threw for 341 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. How ASU can win Against Virginia Tech, the Mountaineers looked weak on all facets. On defense the Mountaineers missed tackles, had terrible pass coverage, had no pass rush or run stuffing presence, and ultimately looked lost. The offensive squad had no rhythm or chemistry, provided no protection for playmakers and made poor decisions in the little time they were offered. It is understandable that the Mountaineers faced stiffer competition last Saturday than they will the rest of the season. However they need to step up their focus against the Aggies. Football is a game of momentum and if ASU can get on the board quickly, gain some confidence and play up to the skill level of the team, they could win. How A&T can win The Aggies’ biggest weapon in this upcoming game is not on the field but in the film room. If A&T is able to harness the game plan used by Virginia Tech a week ago and implement it into their own scheme, they could have a recipe for success. Kindle demonstrated in the Aggie season opener that he can throw the ball down field and find his receivers, like the talented Wallace Miles. If the offensive coordinator can draw up plays to exploit the struggling Mountaineer secondary, A&T could prove too much for ASU to handle. The bottom line Appalachian’s performance against the Hokies was not indicative of the talent they have in the game and on the sidelines calling plays. This game will be decided in the first quarter and fans can expect the team who scores first to win the game. If the Mountaineers can get on the board early and often, they will regain their confidence and could run away and hide. But ASU has yet to show that they have the strength and desire to fight back from a deficit. ASU: 27 N.C. A&T: 14

I like this assessment, but in both the articles I've read they seem to be dismissing Mayhew. He isn't mentioned in either article, which shows that their assessment is only coming from what we did last week. Take it personal big guy!

Why wouldn't he? From all reports he's been fine in practice and could have gone back in against VUL.

wow! i'm surprised that dude showed us so much respect. he could have easily predicted total dominance by app state against us but he didn't. and from the rumors i'm hearing, its likely that mayhew will actually play. they say he's close to 100% and ready to go. we will certainly need him.
i don't buy dude's angle that basically says we should attempt to exploit the same weaknesses against app state that va. tech did. HELLO!! in case he didn't know, we ain't va. tech! but i appreciate the respect he showed us. so i ain't hatin' on dude.
i think we will need some "early" success against app state which will give us confidence that we can win this game. it doesn't have to be a touchdown or even a field goal. we just need to show that our offense can move the ball against them and our defense can "contain" app state's potent offense. if we can do that early, it will build our confidence and app state will be in for an aggie dawg fight! if not, it may be a long ride home for the aggies...

Well True but if we look at that film and from a principle stand point try to take some of the things that Virgina Tech did may not be a bad strategy now weather we can implement it as well as Virgina Tech(no) but you have at least have strategy moving forward.

Then thats a good sign if Mayhew could've gone back in for the VUL game. That meant Coach Broadway realized he'll need to look at other options. The offense became more fluid with Mayhew out for some reason.lol On another note you have to love those Atlanta boys, and I will give ricky lewis his props, he had a great game.

Mayhew is ready to go and will be 100 percent this weekend as is Dominique Drake. Warren is out 2-3 weeks with a high ankle sprain.

Well True but if we look at that film and from a principle stand point try to take some of the things that Virgina Tech did may not be a bad strategy now weather we can implement it as well as Virgina Tech(no) but you have at least have strategy moving forward. yeah, i agree. but i was just trying to say that we can't necessarily exploit the same weaknesses that va. tech did because we may not have the personnel to do it. but you're right, we do have to look at how the hokies exploited app states weaknesses and wherever we have the athletes to exploit those same weaknesses, then indeed we should. i think it will be of the "utmost importance" that we don't turn the ball over against app state, period. if we can take care of ball security alone, that's half the battle. whenever someone scores over 50 or 60 points on a team, turnovers are almost always a major reason for that. don't turn the ball over, move the ball offensively, and contain app state's offense. if we can do that, we can make a game out of this contest...

I agree. The way Broadway got on the players turning the ball over I think it will improve.
I wonder who was the nut case that thought about charging all adults this game $27.00 I aint never seen this before hell why not $28 or $23 LOL

Something tells me that Mayhew is going to run very hard for this game. No fought of his on but I am sure being held out has him fired up and ready to go.

But you know listening to Broadway Press conf. he really is challenging our star players to play better. He thought that Mayhew need to be more physical. And he thought Lewis has a lot of improvement to do.
I am really disappointed rapper is not taken on the role of leading his team.
