One thing for sure, App State has some arrogant football players, after a thumping by VA Tech some of those guys still didn't want to give the VA Tech players credit.

The arrogance must trickle down from their chancellor. --------------------------------------------------- "Just the fact that Appalachian is playing a Virginia Tech that we know and all have real respect for, and then we come back and you play (North Carolina) A&T and Savannah State. I'm not putting those down, but you begin to think, is this the right group from an Appalachian perspective?"

again, my peeps! "33" scholarships versus "63" scholarships, on the road? a brand new coaching staff, versus a coaching staff that's been together for an eternity? app state almost has more players on scholarship than we have players on our entire team.
yeah, i know i'm the "ultimate" aggie optimist. second only to aggieone ;D. but i'm also an aggie realist. if we come within 14 points of app state, coach broadway deserves fcs national coach of the year! the best i can hope for is a respectable showing against app state. i've all but given up hope of winning this game for obvious reasons. of course, i'd love to eat my words come saturday after the game, but i don't see that happening. i'm just keeping it real, folks.
i mean, c'mon folks! did we not forget app state has been preseason ranked #1 in the country in some fcs polls? now, i know i'm the pot calling the kettle black, 'cause i definitely drink the aggie cool-aid. but not to the point where i become delusional. app state has won more fcs national championships than we've won playoff games and we haven't even "sniffed" a top fcs 25 ranking in almost a decade. if we win this game, it'll be the fcs upset of the year!
c'mon, coach broadway! please, please, please, make me eat my words...

I don't expect too much against App. State. Just get out of the game healthy, then see where you stand against Coastal...IMO. yep, that's pretty much where i am with this one. and coastal won't be easy either, they beat furman this past weekend. don't know how good furman is this year, but they've had some very strong teams in the past. hopefully we won't be too banged up by the time we play coastal. at least we have them at home...

I started a thread on meacfanszone about REALISTIC GOALS with this game......
1) Less than 5 penalties for the entire game 2) Less than 3 turnovers for the entire game 3) 40% 3rd down conversion percentage 4) 21 points scored by our offense (not including special teams or defense) 5) Give up less than 40 pts or lose by 21 points or less 6) At least 3 quarters of fairly competitive play
If we can accomplish most/all of these things, I would feel very good about where we're headed....

One thing for sure. Those Brothers could not go to Boone with a Better staff of Coaches..pound for pound with Funky B' and them. As he said about the season, 'they better get us now'.

If you give this staff some film to study, they will have the guys ready.

Ima tell the truth.......I am getting a little hype and my stomach is beginning to turn. I know its still early in "Funk-Funk's" regime but these goose bumps ain't happened since "Wild, Wild Bill" was da sheriff. I just got a feel that in 2 mo years we will be sitting mighty pretty in da saddle. One day at a time, one day at a time..........

The fact that this coaching staff did not have any film or scouting report on VUL beforehand and basically had to devise a game plan on the spot in less than one quarter is what impressed me the most on Saturday
We have been talking for years about how we need a coaching staff that can make in-game adjustments. This staff just gave a clinic in that.

Now if I think about it...
If our defensive front 7 has the speed we suspect they possess, they should match-up quite nicely against App. State. Of course, our Secondary will have to drastically improve in order to compete and our depth will be tested.
