We could really use him on defence. Maybe at LB or DE.

They have slated him as the H-Back, the heir apparent to Mike Mayhew. Hendersonville's McMinn commits to NC A&T on full ride Mon. January 23, 2012 at 11:24 p.m. | By Brittany JacksonOn a football team loaded with talent, it was just a matter of time before the offers started rolling in at the next level. And Hendersonville’s AJ McMinn is the first to get the ball rolling. McMinn announced Saturday evening that he has verbally committed to play football at North Carolina A&T State University in the fall. The program offered him a full athletic scholarship at his official visit with the Aggies in mid-January, and after finishing up his remaining official visits with other colleges, McMinn decided on NC A&T. “First and foremost, AJ is the kid who did things the right way; he did it right in the classroom, behavior-wise and citizen-wise, and it’s just good to see a kid like that have this pan out for him. Full rides are hard to come by nowadays. I’m proud of him. He’s got a lot of character,” said HHS head football coach BJ Laughter. That character is part of what Laughter relied on during the season, and not just on the field for a big run or block. “For four years in my program, he did not miss a practice nor was he late for a practice, which is unheard of,” Laughter said. “He showed leadership by action. AJ is a doer, not a guy with a lot of lip service, and he wasn’t a finger-pointer, didn’t have a hothead. He remained calm in adverse situations. He kept everyone’s head in the game; he’s just a solid leader.” For the rest of the story: preps.blueridgenow.com/news/artic....t-on-full-ride/

to be honest, i'm less concerned with landing that stud of a recruit than i am landing a quality sound athlete who is committed to academics. i just trust that broadway and his staff can coach guys up. but right now, restoring our apr status is more important to me than landing studs who will jeopardize our standing as an fcs program.
once our program is on sound apr footing again, then i don't mind going after "a few" academically risky kids as long as they're willing to work hard in the classroom and their talent justifies taking the risk...

I hope we don't take risks on kids for a good while. We need to get our program solid yet again

I like Dorian Belcher. I seen him play a few times. On top of being a good athlete he is a natural leader. Doesn't rattle. Hopefully he chooses us. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCJWgvfJyHEI'm loving the heavy Durham Recruiting this year!

Hopefully he chooses us. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCJWgvfJyHEI'm loving the heavy Durham Recruiting this year! watched his video and he looks good. seems to be a tough guy for a qb, runs hard and doesn't shy away from contact. his passes appear to be pretty accurate and obviously if he averages 40 yards per punt punting the football, he can immediately challenge for our punting duties. the only thing that i didn't see that i'd like to see in a qb is the ability to step up in the pocket, go thru progressions "while under pressure", and throw an accurate pass. almost all of his passes in the video showed him passing without very much pressure or him scrambling out of the pocket to pass down field. but clearly he's worthy of a scholarship offer (if his grades are good), especially considering he has good punting skills. i like his "toughness", he literally "obliterated" one dude with a crushing block on one play. if he's only deciding between us and western carolina, i like our chances...

we really need help at the wide receiver position. i'm hoping that we can come up with a "stud" wide receiver who has good speed, good hands, not afraid of contact, and will "aggressively" go after the ball...

looks to have pretty good speed. my guess is that he has 4.5 or 4.4 kinda speed. looks to be very athletic and a good pickup for broadway...

I don't know if you recall back in the fall when we were debating about if the pass should've been caught in Norfolk??? Well...I said then and I'm saying it again. Broadway will have guys on his team that can catch the ball. My suggestion for Warren & Raper..."work on your hands in the offseason."

I'm not saying he will bring in a big name guy/receiver but, he's going to have receivers that can catch the ball.

I think we have a decent group coming back in Raper, Lewis, Warren and Demonta Brown.

Decks,
I agree but Broardway will not be content with that core group. As neither are really possesion receivers (neither fit the mode of a big solid kid that can hang on to 8 yard pass over the middle).
I think we will see a solid D1 transfer receiver or a versital tight end by August.
Switching gears someone mentioned that Mayhew could play as a fith year sr. Is that the case and any word if he is sticking around ?
