JCSU football scrambles for Sept. 3 game Golden Bulls look to replace St. Paul's Published Saturday, May 14, 2011 10:10 am by Herbert L. White
Wanted: One opponent for Johnson C. Smith’s Sept. 3 football season opener. Apply immediately. The Golden Bulls are in negotiations with multiple schools to fill a hole opened by St. Paul’s decision earlier this month to shut down its athletics program. Neither JCSU Athletics Director Steve Joyner nor head coach Steve Aycock would identify the schools contacted, but suggested a deal could be struck by next week to remain on a 10-game schedule. “Nothing is concrete yet,” Aycock said. JCSU has contacted three non-CIAA schools about Sept. 3, including at least one Division I program, Joyner and Aycock said. The others are Division II teams. Schools in the South Atlantic, West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic conferences are in immediate proximity to Smith. Division I FCS program N.C. A&T, which also announced the Tigers as its Sept. 3 opponent, is looking to fill the gap, which makes game against Smith as a strong possibility. “We are looking for a game with one or two institutions and we have to have (a contract signed) pretty soon,” Joyner said. www.thecharlottepost.com/index.php?src=news&srctype=detail&category=Sports&refno=3633

This is pure comedy. Its May 16th and this isn't settled. Get on the phone and make this happen. Call JCSU and WVstate and who ever jumps first wins

I think the CIAA office is the bigget holdup for the A&T-JCSU game to happen.

How do we know that anything is or isn't going on behind the scenes at this point?

It's happening with Smith. It seems everyone these days wants instant everything. Just be cool.

The problem (and it's a huge one with A&T) is the complete lack of communication on these things. You only hear rumors, conjecture, and panic after the N&R gets hold of information that A&T should be controlling from the start.
If A&T sent out a brief, vague press release stating there was a snag in scheduling St. Pauls and they are currently working with alternative schools and the new schedule will be out by July, no one could complain. Well they could complain but they'd just be ignored because they wouldn't have a valid point.
JCSU, which is a d-2 school and supposedly "beneath" us, has a whole article in the Charlotte Colored paper about the exact same issue. Do we? A school with 10,000 students and 40,000 alumni shouldn't be reduced to being a topic in a much smaller school's affairs.
We have to control our own press. Otherwise shut down the school of journalism because we clearly don't have the right to teach anybody what we can't seem to do.

JCSU will be playing West Virgina State on Sept 3. You can look at the JCSU website for verification.

When it rains, it pours on A&T. Hilton's mistake was dealing with St Paul College in the first place. I think that anyone who was familiar with St Paul knew there was a probability of St Paul not having a fully equipped football team by the start of the season as was the case two seasons ago.
