You want someone then call Kelvin Sampson, a Lumberton native who lives there now, formerly of Oklahoma and a final four coach and who would love to have a chance at a Bozeman type revival at a mid major D-1 program. I would prefer Sampson, but do you think he would leave the NBA to come here? Kelvin Sampson is under NCAA "show cause" penalty until 2013 which means he is pretty much unemployable by an NCAA school.

Funny how coach Eaves' extension runs out then. I'm not on this fire the coach bandwagon. Sorry.

I just think the responsibility that comes with coaching at our school, he is doing fairly. He had to rebuild the program from an academic standpoint, which he's done. He has to stay within his annual budget, which he does. And he recruits well...his only challenge is getting the team to play consistent ball night in and night out. Now, examine what you can get that's out there...Sidney Lowe would be a Fobbs of basketball, just like Curtis Hunter. Their expectations of this bottomless pit of money would hinder him most. I could see him now...blowing the budget every year. We don't have a "Silver Spoon" job to hand someone. It takes a lot of fortitude to be successful in this job. Everything isn't necessarily handed to you on a platter, he'd have to make things happen. He'd have to raise monies and I don't mean running to the Aggie Club asking for $$. After all that, he'd have to graduate players. So, I say don't take for granted the job that Eaves is doing. Some things we don't see with the naked eye.

thanks, ohsixrain. i agree. the only time i questioned eaves remaining our coach was last year when he briefly went nuts with the 3 point shooting. i think he's done an excellent job this season recovering from that. i just wish he could become more consistent, improve our performances on the road, and win more tournament games.
but barring an outright collapse, i don't see any reason why eaves shouldn't return to be our coach next season...

Unless a totally blatant NCAA violation is committed I'm not in favor of anyone else being terminated.

Get RID of Eaves and get a coach who will not ACCEPT losing. Eaves gives more excuses than the prettiest gurl in town who is trying to just get a paycheck!!!! It aint gonna get no better. We are stuck on or near .500. Are there any AGGIES in the house? ?

I know its off season but just food for thought. Sometimes it doesn't take a WHOLE lotta money to build a successful basketball program. Take a look at Butler University--- 4,200 student enrollment, Coach Stevens' salary is $434,382 per yr. Mid-major school that's in their 2nd championship game in a row. VCU---- much larger student population, Coach Smart's salary is $418,000. Mid-major that made it to the Final Four this yr. It takes a special skill set to go over the top w/o BIG time funds. True, our coach (Mr..500 in MEAC) makes less than these coaches and has less resources but I was just thinking..........

Look at how much each of those two schools along with other quality Mid-Major schools and compare that to the amount A&T spends on Basketball yearly.

That being said the lesson is some schools are just over spending. We all know Butler and VCU's budget combined probably does not equal Kentuckys. Although (A&T) is not at a contender mid-major spend level we do have enough spend to win the MEAC.
Thats my take away from all this. If Butler's spend can get back to back National title games our spend is certainly enough to win a MEAC title.... Ponder that!!

We need to really question our commitment to Division I basketball.

Can we REALLY afford what it takes to be very good in both (football and basketball)?
