aggierattler, Correction: "was not the magnitude"...... I will be interested in Abney's research and recollection. OK...I got it. Coach Abney said that he has a bunch of stuff from his years at A&T at the house and he would see what he could find on that. He was in Wichita with his tennis teams when I talked to him. My first job after finishing A&T was at FAMU, and I remember seeing a clip of this particular fight on CNN/SI with Nick Charles while living in Tallahassee. Supposedly, it started with a fan messing with one of TSU's student trainers on their bench (the trainer said that a fan kept messing with his ears - LOL!). He told coach Ed Martin about it, and the coach told him to go back and sit down. The next thing that happened was a fight erupting on the end of TSU's bench. I also talked to former SID Joe Faust. He said that he remembers some coverage of it, but he was living in Milwaukee at the time and wasn't there.

I did not go to the Tenn St game but I do remember something about a fight I don't think it got a lot of news coverage. During the time that you people have come up with a brawl (a brawl would be bench clearing), A&T was heavily covered by the media. That would have been on TV. The fans were moved back from the visitor's bench at one point because students were accused of physically touching a coaches' ears. The university pushed several rows of the bleaches back to get the students away from the visitors. I think that made the papers. The only other so-called brawl that I remember was in a tournament game with Howard in Winston-Salem. There were times during those years when players may have pushed or said something, but the big fight was between A&T and nccu. I do know about the "ear thing" as I mentioned above, and as stated before I seem to recall it having some media coverage but not on a large scale. That prompted the administration to order that the bleachers be move two or three rows back to get students away from the visitor's bench. So I will be very interested in whatever bits and pieces of information that you can dig up.

What I saw was definitely NOT on the magnitude of the Central Fight, but what was? The Central incident was a riot.
Having said that, the incident I witnessed with Tennessee State was definitely not your normal altercation. Not many but some fans were on the floor.

Senility does not help .

Yes it was an incident with TSU in 87 or 88. I was there a sophmore at the time. I dont remember all the details but I do remember a chair being thrown at or by a TSU player.

Yes, we had a home and home with them in '87, but didn't play the last year Cox, Griffis and Williams played.
