I'm truly SHOCKED!!!! The men win and the women loose. Good win Coach Eaves and team. I still have total confidence in the fact that Coach Bibbs and the women will win the regular-season and tournament championship.

It's amazing how you can look at the line on three pointers attempted and tell whether this team won or lost. 7/18 = .389%.

Yep. When they beat Coppin we were 8 for 14 behind the arc. I just hope we keep three attempts at 18 and under.
But we most give the team credit for a monstrous job on the boards. 44 rebounds compared to 30 by Hampton. (22 of the 44 were off reb. for us). Outstanding!!!
I will say free three shooting was horrible 12 of 26. Thats not Eaves fought 100% on the players. No excuse for not at least being 70%
Good job Coach Eaves. Nice to see us in the teens for three point attempts and glad to see Upchurch getting some minutes.

dailypress.com N.C. A & T responds to challenge, edges Hampton 69-65 By Chris Lancia

HAMPTON
For 20 minutes Monday night, Hampton was clearly the better of the two teams on the court at the Hampton University Convocation Center.
Unfortunately for the Pirates, that 20-minute period came in the middle of the game.
North Carolina A&T ran the Pirates out of the building early, weathered the storm in the middle of the game and then built a big lead to close out a 69-65 win over the Pirates.
"There's not much to say about the way we played except that we lacked focus," Hampton coach Edward Joyner said. "They just outplayed us, and it's tough to have a chance like that and watch it slip away."
Rebounds provided the biggest difference, as the Pirates came up on the short end, 46-31.
N.C. A&T (9-17, 5-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) grabbed 24 offensive rebounds, scoring 25 second-chance points.
"I don't know any play for rebounds," Joyner said. "They just went up and wanted it more than we did, and that was obvious. They had 15 offensive rebounds in the first half, and that's tough to overcome."
Five minutes into the game, Hampton (8-17, 4-8) was being run off the court.
The Aggies were grabbing the boards, running the floor and driving the lane at will.
A switch to man defense and a scoring spree by Darrion Pellum midway through the first half provided the spark the Pirates needed to get back in the game.
After falling behind by as many as eight points, the Pirates strung together a 15-7 run to climb back into it.
Pellum scored seven straight to key the Pirates' run, and a jumper by Mike Tullt tied it at 22 with 7:35 left on the clock.
Pellum finished with a game-high 18 points and also led the Pirates with five assists.
Hampton kept rolling from there, taking the lead on a basket by Kwame Morgan with less than four minutes remaining.
Pellum pushed a 37-31 halftime lead to nine with a three-point play to open the second half, and the Pirates appeared poised to blow the game open.
"That three-point play really scared me, and I was seriously considering pulling the entire squad off the floor," A&T coach Jerry Eaves said. "But I'm glad I didn't, because they responded to the challenge and clawed their way back in, point by point." The lead changed five times before the Aggies took it back for good when Marc Hill hit a 3-pointer with 13:30 remaining to close a 16-5 run.
N.C. A&T's biggest lead of the second half — 12 — came on a jumper by Robert Johnson with 4:30 remaining.
Kwame Morgan sank a 3-pointer with 4:05 left to open a 9-4 run that kept the Pirates in it. The Aggies did their part by shooting just 1-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final minute, but Hampton missed three 3-pointers in the final 20 seconds. "Certainly I wasn't happy about that, but thank goodness for five-point leads," Eaves said. "I'm just glad we were able to hold on and close this one out, because they're a good team and it's tough to win on the road in this league."

It a good win and we need it. Looking ahead A&T is catching SCSU at the right time. SCSU had a big low of losing to Coppin on Sat and high to Morgan on Monday. I believe SCSU will come out flat on Wednesday and we need to jump on those Bulldogs.

I believe SCSU will come out flat on Wednesday and we need to jump on those Bulldogs. So, SCSU didn't beat Morgan last night and A&T didn't beat a team equally as bad as they are?? Doesn't these scores and the standings of the teams tell all of us something about the state of MEAC basketball. Eaves is the same coach as he was last year and the year before that. His players are virtual clones of past players in style no matter their talent or skill level. The supporters will laud Eaves for his wins and the detractors will denigrate him for his losses. Eaves is here to stay, so these conversations will continue for a lot more years.

the meac is as good as any low mid major league out there... what you see in conference play is parity... morgan is head & shoulders above everyone else... but from 2-11 is a toss up...
some teams in the meac played less guaranteed games this yr. as compared to previous yrs. & its paying off in the won-loss column... & in team confidence...
for some reason our kids lost confidence after the florida trip... i think having to bus to florida had a lot to do with it...

SixtiesAggie,
I sort disagree with the above. Granted we have only had limited sucess in the MEAC. If you can call it that because we have no MEAC crown in a number of years and none certainally doing Eaves tenure.
But Eaves changed the script with this business about 40 threes. I will be very courious to see how they approach Wed's game. If the three point attempts are again in the teens I think he is starting to adjust and back off that strategy.
And you are correct Eaves is here to stay so I hope he coaches to his ability and background and not to some (I'd say hair brain idea but he has a ball head). LOL

LOL the reason for jacking up 3s was to get the kids to relax & not be so nervous in the tournament... but this stragedy has not worked out to well... instead of getting relaxed & just stroking it... our kids got tighter with each missed shot... so you probably will see a change in stragedy until someone or somebodies prove they can knock these shots down time & time again... sometimes in coaching it can be a struggle trying to figure out whats on your players mind & why they can't perform... just ask roy williams... hes going through the same thing... but unless you have players who are an extension of the coach out there on the court.. in practice & in the locker room... it can get rough at times... but thats the part of coaching the average fan doesn't see... i mean no-one practices not to box out... no-one practices to turn the ball over... sometimes as a coach when you've done everything you can think of... you may just have to sit back & see what your kids are truely made of... & thats where we are now with this team...

TruthSeeker,
If the reason for jacking up threes is to get them to relax ---then the strategy is crazier than I thought.
When a team is tight and has no stroke you have them drive to the basket in hopes of getting some contact even if you dont draw a foul the contact takes the edge away
