to be honest, i didn't watch the entire game. everytime morgan appeared to be pulling away, i switched to another screen. so i was back and forth for a while. but i was surprised that bozeman apparently didn't get the memo on us. all he had to do was set up a 3 quarters court zone trap and we would've turned the ball over all game long.
i'm just very depressed with the men right now. at times, i think they did play hard on defense. but you can't play hard on defense against morgan "at times". you have to do it all the time. i saw too many wide open 3's that morgan took and i'm still not buying our outside in approach on offense. but i'm gonna give our guys a pass this time because morgan is clearly the best team in the meac and our guys didn't just lay down.
i'd like to see eaves completely change his philosophy on offense. get the ball inside down low to coleman or to johnson from 15 feet in. then look for spot up shooters for "wide open" 3's when the defense collapses. i think coleman has improved his inside game somewhat and johnson can definitely hurt you from 15 feet in.
and i've got to agree with most folks' assessment of dwane joshua. i personally call him dwane "jack-it-up"! he's never seen a 3 point shot he doesn't like and his defense is horrible. in the first half, i even saw johnson heave up "an nba range 3" that was contested! we just waste possessions with all of those 3's. we only made 28% of our 3's. morgan made an eye popping 40% of theirs! why we get into a 3 point shooting contest against a team that shoots 3's better than us is beyond me. if we were making 40% of our 3's, i'd say fire away! but we're not...

at least the guys kept it close, but i knew when it came time to take control of the game, morgan would. they've showed a pattern of doing that throughout the meac season. they'll let teams hang around or they'll even fall behind at times. but they always turn it on when it counts the most, and that's the last 10 minutes of the game.
time to move on to our next opponent, dsu. dsu is playing some pretty decent ball this year. they're currently holding down 2nd place in the conference with only 2 losses to umes and msu, and their overall is 11-8. other than msu and umes, they've beaten everybody else that they've played in the conference. there's only 2 teams they haven't played yet, us and norfolk. at the rate they're playing, they're gonna be tough to beat in corbett. but the good news is that we don't have to play them in delaware this year.
we're currently 3 games out of 2nd place, holding the tie breaker over nsu for 8th place. if we lose to dsu at home on saturday, we'll be 3-6 in the meac and i think the hole will be too deep to climb out of. but if we can pull off 2 wins at home this weekend including the umes game on monday, we'll be 5-5 in the conference with a legitimate chance to grab a 1st round bye in the meac tourney.
i think the next 2 games are "critical" for us...

'School, Nice work. I dont see anyone catching MSU on this side of an injury. The battle is for 2nd place for most intents and purposes. Someone will have to upset MSU in the Tourny. Thats why it is special. NSU just showed that MSU could be had. >So now it depends on how you look at the rest of the season. Coach Lee played Kindle. Eaves plays Freshmen. M Hill & N Simpson are Sophs. If we can play better during the last 10mins of the games we may be able to overcome. Remember,we have not gotten blownout. It comes down to the FT shooting contest at the end. I did not see this game. But M Hill goes to the hoop. Sometimes to a fault. But the other players have to be ready to help a penetrator like him. I like his game...its another gear when others are tired.

There is another thing. I think that we need to change up our defense from time to time. The full court trap gets solved eventually. Now it does make teams play faster & take '3, and sometimes they get out of what they want to do. DSU will be fun to watch...will they stay 'slowed down', or will they run? But back to the defense. We change the lineup when Marc & Porter comes in...I would like to see a half-court trap for 2 or 3 possessions after a made basket....Or maybe 'springing a trap on someone right at the start of their offense.
We need a few more easy baskets as a team.

pj, ain't no doubt about it. jackson will have the hornets playing a very "disciplined" ball game. i don't see any team forcing a helter skelter game out of dsu unless jackson chooses to. in terms of offensive philosophy, jackson is the total opposite of eaves...

That why I think DSU can give Morgan a run in the MEAC tourney.
I think were going to find our 3 point range next week.

The 'Maniacs' seemed to be missed. At least make some signs for ESPNU pushing the School! How was it in Corbett last night? Was it OK? Are we losing our edge?
Hell, in football we were cheering the defense, who time & time again had to make stops. Remember the goal line stands that we had? We had the team looking back at the stands saying oh sh**! I'm with this!
> The FAMU game was sparce on TV >Please dont let us fall into a 'wine & cheese' vibe, where we are all scientists looking into a microscope. Shucks, If the PA Man or cheerleaders did not implore us, we may be as quiet as the YMCA! Maybe WSSU will wake us up.

i think we need a more engaging pa announcer and better music selections in corbett. doggone right we need the maniacs! but it would really help if the guys gave us something to cheer and get hyped about. btw, i watched the scsu at famu game last night, and famu has a really nice arena. but that green and orange is so ugly! and the snake mascot at the center of the floor looks tacky in my opinion. you would think they could find a better graphic representation of their mascot than that ugly snake they have. it looks cheap. we may not have the best hbcu football stadium, but no one can top our aggie bulldog scoreboard! i haven't seen any other hbcu match that! i've seen other hbcu's with jumbotrons, but none of them can touch ours! that bulldog scoreboard is absolutely sweet!!

t but i was surprised that bozeman apparently didn't get the memo on us. all he had to do was set up a 3 quarters court zone trap and we would've turned the ball over all game long. Bozeman, may have felt his team didn't have the legs to press after a hard fought game the night before against Norfolk State in a 100-94 overtime win. Morgan State was the better team. A&T didn't have a easy shot all night until the game was over and Coleman got a slam. Even A&T's 3-pt shots had MSU defender within 3 feet. Alston did well with his drives to the basket in the second half. This team still can't seem to get the easy 12 or 15 footer in their offense. The good things I saw: the Aggies played hard; their zone press worked in the second half; Alston drove to the goal and got fouls; and the crowd was into the game. All-in-all, I think it was a good weekend for the Aggies. They got the must-have split with a win against a winless conference foe and a hard fought loss to the undefeated conference team. I would like to see this team go 6-2 conference run (9-7) the rest of the way with a win also against WSSU but I would settle for a 5-3 run (8-8) as long as they improve their team play with each successive game.

>I couldn't figure out why Eaves kept taking Johnson, Coleman, and Alston out the game at the same time. I know one time in the second half with 8 minutes and some change to go, we were down by 7 and he took all 3 of them out. I agree with giving them a breather but not all at the same time.
>The maniacs are still suspended, we have to try and get in touch with the advisor to find out when we can get off suspension.
>A bunch of people I know have been complaining about the men's games being broing, they've also been wishing the men would play first to have more people at the womens game.
