The Aggies, playing at home the past two games have looked fundamentally unsound and may be mentally and physically fatigued. What ever process or method, Coach Eaves and his staff have been using to get this team ready to play basketball that is fundamentally sound isn't working right now.
Winning the next two games this coming weekend is secondary to getting this team to play good sound fundamental basketball. My suggestion would be to use the next two weeks to get this team on track and start playing basketball that will resemble Division I basketball.
My advice is to get back to basics in all facets of the games, which means working on ball handling, passing, rebounding, dribbling, jump shooting, shooting layups, shooting free throws and playing half court defense. A caution: I wouldn't over do it because it seems like the players have hit a mental and physical wall.
To be honest, for the next two games I would forbid any player from taking a 3-point shot until I say so. It would be a lot of 15-feet and 12-feet jump shots with as many layups or shots inside the paint that we can get. You have to get rid of the players' tendency to throw up a 3-point shot instead driving to the basket or passing to keep the offensive play going. I also wouldn't do any full court press. I would just have the players play hard nosed half-court defense.
This team can turn it around but they can't hope it will happen in a game in which they get a hot shooting hand because they would burn out like last year at the very end of the season. It has to happen in practice and I think they have the next two weeks to make it happen.

I agree a 100% on the 3-point shots taken the past two games. I also don't agree with Eaves substitution methods, it seems like he doesn't want the players to get a hot streak.

they won't win not even one more single game if they can't stop teams like howard from shooting 67% from the floor! my first priority would be motivating the team to play intense defense because clearly they aren't putting in very much "effort" on defense. THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR ALLOWING "ANY" MEAC TEAM TO SHOOT 67% FROM THE FLOOR!!

I know next to nothing about basketball. That being said, I do know that teams hated to play us in Eaves' first year. They'd probably beat us, but they were going to lose the following game simply because we physically wore them down.
Seems like going back to that game plan might be in order.

Dooms I agree. Eaves had tenacious(sp) defenses those first few years because he knew he couldn't score points. It seems as if he's abandoned that defensive mindset. Thinking back, I was even somewhat impressed with what he was able to do just playing fundamental basketball. Go figure.

Please stop shooting 3 pointers!!!! It's a low probability shot (with this team anyways) and work with your big men on their post moves. Coleman still doesn't know how to use his body and often holds the ball down to low. Why does Porter try to put the ball on the floor? Contact former UNC coach Bill Gutheridge for some advice. He was the best at working with big men. Also focus on free throw shooting because this team is horrendous at it. Jazz is right, this team is lacking in fundamentals.

Very disappointed in the Product that Coach Eaves has put on the floor in this 2009-10 season
Don't know what his Contract situation is................but if he don't get it together soon, then AD Brown may have to start looking for a Men's Basketball Coach, and just a thought, If Haith at Miami doesn't start winning, He may be available Come on "AGGIES" get it together, I swear my Freshmen and Sophomore Season 1980-82 were the Best Basketball Seasons for me as an AGGIE! Coach Don Corbett was the MAN! "AGGIE"BLUEDEATH"PRIDE

I'm the last person to just dog a coach. There is a lot behind the scenes that we dont know. But in Eaves case I'll make an exception.
To even have that offensive philosophy in the MEAC is ridiculous. Did I miss where he recruited the best shooters in the country coming out of high school? He acts like the 3-point line is this new thing that no one else in the country has ever defended before.
His offense is a cop-out and he needs to develop something that works with the players he has. I'm not even sure if he is capable of that. He hasnt shown any signs of being a good coach that I've seen. Past or present.

what do ya'll think of cy alexander? i know he got fired at tenn. state last year but he "dominated" the meac when he was at scsu. i think he would be a good candidate because he won at scsu and their basketball facilities are worse than ours. plus, he knows the meac...

You think that Cy learned a few things by watching the epic battles between A.B. and Corbett?

I agree with Decks... You have two players, Porter and Coleman that should get more touches in the paint. But on the other hand they should demand the ball in the paint. They have to be more assertive… If the big men are calling for the ball in the paint this will cause teams to help out... then you kick it out to get that 3 point shot. You should always work into the post first, this will keep your bigs(big men) happy and they will work hard for you on the glass.(Rebounding)

I hear you but remember neither Porter nor Coleman have great hands. Rememebr last year how many times Coleman or Shepard would make a bad pass. What I will say is the off you are describing gives the post players the ball in a different spot. Last year the post would receive the ball at the top of the key.
Maybe our post players will be more comfortable getting the ball down in the post with their back to the basket. Allowing them to make a drop step move, spin in the lane for a easy hook / jumper, or kick out for a three

I agree with Bluegoldmachine 80 and Aggie Monster. The same thing I told you guys after the MEAC tourney last season. The sad thing is we had the player personel to beat both Howard and Hampton. Its looks like he runs a play for our guards to jack a three when nobody is under the basket..
I swear some of you guys on here are Eaves golfing buddies the way you go ALL IN when someone talks about him. I don't care much he helps out with the budget, let the next coach do the same.

The next coach will help out the budget the same way providing we play similar guarantee games.

am i the only one that 67% shooting against us turns on a fire engine red light? i mean, we're talkin' 2 out of every 3 shots against us went in! 2 out of every 3!
we will not win any more basketball games if your opponent is knocking down 2 out of every 3 shots! i'll guarantee that! to hail with our offense until something is done to stop the bleeding defensively. so what are we suppose to do to win, shoot 90% from the floor?
guys, there's no discipline or "effort" on defense. that's a major, major, problem! you don't let teams come into your gym and shoot 67%! if i were coach, i would have had their azzes in the gym running their azzes off at 4:30am the following morning to convince them how important defense is! to me, i don't even want to discuss our offense unless our defense is on par...
