I'm proud of our Lady Aggies tonight. I wish I was in Cyclone Alley in my A&T Letterman jacket cheering them on. (This is one of the few times I wished I was back at Iowa State instead of on break in DC)

Lacey finished with 22 points to move into 10th place with 1,330 career points. She passed former teammate Heather Ezell, who was in attendance while on break from playing in Iceland. Freshman Chelsea Poppens had 12 points, including 10 in the first half, and Kelsey Bolte also finished with 12. Denae Stuckey recorded a season-high tying 10 rebounds to lead ISU on the glass. North Carolina A&T pushed the Cyclones to the very end. The Aggies shot 43.6 percent from the field and 53.3 percent (8-15) from beyond the arc. Iowa State countered with a 40.4 percent shooting effort from the field, while being held to a season-low four three-pointers. The Cyclones narrowly outrebounded the Aggies, 34-31. Amber Calvin led North Carolina A&T with 16 points, while Ta’Wuana Cook finished with 14 points. Iowa State clung to a 34-33 halftime lead, with 13 points from Lacey and 10 from Poppens. After missing their first four shots of the game, the Cyclones jumped out to an 8-2 lead, but the Aggies proved early they were going to make a game of it. North Carolina A&T responded with an 8-0 run to take a 10-8 advantage. Iowa State went ahead 22-20 on a field goal by Amanda Zimmerman, before the Aggies rolled out a 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the half, 27-22. Iowa State tied the game at 27-all, and after an Aggie score, Lacey scored six straight points to give the Cyclones a 34-29 edge. North Carolina A&T scored the final four points of the half. Both teams struggled to score coming out of the break, as they combined for six points over the first four minutes of the half. Bolte scored to give ISU a 38-35 edge and after a pair of Aggie free throws, freshman Jessica Schroll took over, scoring ISU’s next eight points, to give it a 46-42 lead. Cook nailed a three-pointer to give North Carolina A&T its first lead of the half in the midst of a 7-0 run. The Aggies led 49-46 with 10 and a half minutes to go in the contest. The Cyclones retook the lead, 52-49, when Iowa State missed three consecutive shots and Stuckey came up with three straight rebounds and on the final rebound, Schroll found Poppens under the basket for a lay in. North Carolina A&T took its final lead, 53-52, but Lacey scored a traditional three-point play to go back ahead. Despite the ISU lead, the game remained close the rest of the way. ISU went up 64-59 on a free throw by Stuckey, but Jaquayla Berry nailed a three-pointer with just seven seconds left to close the gap to 64-62. Bolte hit a pair of free throws to give Iowa State it’s final margin. AGGIES LOSE TOUGH DEFENSIVE BATTLE
AMES, IOWA – The North Carolina A&T women’s basketball team nearly pulled off an upset Tuesday night even though it had not played a game in two weeks. A late scoring drought helped Iowa State hold off the Aggies 66-62 at Hilton Coliseum. It was the first game of the Cyclone Challenge.
Freshman Amber Calvin led the Aggies with 16 points, five assists and four rebounds. Tweet Cook added 14 points and now has hit 11 out her last 17 3-pointers.
“I just want to start by saying I’m proud of them,’’ said N.C. A&T head coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs. “They played hard from beginning to end. I saw some young ladies grow up tonight.”
The Aggies trailed by just one at the half, and although they never allowed the Cyclones to grow their lead any larger than five, the Aggies were able to take the lead just once in the second half. That came on a Nikia Gorham jumper in the lane that gave the Aggies a 53-52 lead with 7:03 remaining in the game.
The Cyclones responded with a 3-point play by Alison Lacey. Kelsey Bolte added a jump shot to complete Iowa State’s 5-0 run that gave the Cyclones a 57-53 lead with 5:56 remaining.
Two minutes later, the Aggies would find themselves down one again as Tierra Thomas found an open Amber Calvin for a 3-pointer that sliced the Cyclones lead to 60-59. Iowa State would not cooperate with the Aggies upset hopes, however.
Bolte quickly answered Calvin’s three with one of her own to put the Cyclones up four with 3:24 remaining. N.C. A&T (4-6) went more than three minutes without a field goal down the stretch to help the Cyclones escape.
“Iowa State is a good team that can shoot threes,’’ said Bibbs. “It was a team effort on the defensive end. That was good to see.”
The Aggies are back in action Wednesday when they play the University of Missouri at Kansas City at 5 p.m., in the Cyclone Challenge. The Aggies return to the state of North Carolina to play N.C. Central in Durham, N.C., at 2 p.m.

the ladies bounced back really well after a bad gm. against LSU... the state of iowa is a womens basketball hotbed at every level...
the girls high school state championships draw way better than the boys... its not uncommon for the attendence to be 12K or better for a girls state final...
good job ladies... can't wait til we get back healthy...
