That fire routine was some scary isht.
I'm glad it worked out, but I don't think my nerves can take seeing GD perform that again this year. LOL

back to the subject at hand, i think the bgmm is really having a down year. imo, the gd saved our entire halftime show against central, but the bgmm loss the battle of the bands. now that the football team seems to be heading in the right direction, the bgmm needs to go back to the drawing board.
i've only seen two halftime performances "in person" this year (wssu & nccu). and to me, clearly the gd is carrying the bgmm right now. we need to get the bgmm fixed...

You absolutely have no idea what idea you are talking about.. Now I rarely get up here and comment on some stuff, but when you say that GD is carrying the machine you are definitley out of it. Not taking anything away from GD, but they are really not carrying the machine and this is coming from a current member in the band who has leadership... so oldschool you may need to elaborate more on why you think the machine is down

I think you are partially right if you were basing your opinion off the WSSU performance because I feel that was a 'down' performance. The B&GMM may have gotten off to a slow start this season, but they are getting back to where they were last year and years past. The power is coming back, the intensity and killer instinct is coming back, and I think the halftime performances are more energetic than they were the first 2 games. Pay a little closer attention next game and see if you dont honestly notice a difference between that and the first game.

yes, i have noticed the improvement from the first game to now. but i've been watching the bgmm for many many years. and trust me, i have as much pride in the bgmm as anyone. but i'm not gonna sit here and act like the bgmm is top notch this year if i really don't think they are. hey, i'm just giving my honest opinion.
don't get me wrong, i'm not saying the bgmm is a poor performing band. i'm just saying they are not performing to the level that i've seen the best of the bgmm perform at in previous years. folks may get mad at me for saying it, but i'm not gonna sit here and lie. both wssu and nccu won the battle of the bands at halftime against us this year. that would have "never" happened when the bgmm is on top of their game! now that's just my opinion and it hurts me to say it. but to say otherwise would only breed complacency and content with our current performance level which "to me" is currently slightly above average.
imo, the bgmm has never been a "constant" top notch band. now, that doesn't mean it has been a poor performing band. just that it is not a "constant" top notch band like famu or gsu. we have our era's where we may be top notch for 3 or 4 consecutive years, and then we'll drop down to average for a minute before we bounce back to top notch. i'm just saying we're currently not a top notch band right now.
i'm not a musician, so i can't break it down technically. but i don't have to be a musician to know whether a band is more entertaining than another. now, i didn't see our halftime show at the nsu and hampton games. perhaps they looked better at those games. but the two games that i've seen this year, compared to the best bgmm's of the past, this year's version does not measure up. its not even close in my opinion. think about it? against central, we didn't get a "loud ovation" for our halftime performance until the gd completed their fire twirling performance.
we use to have much better dance routines and our sound was much louder and crisper. i just don't see the "creativity" in our halftime performances that i've seen in past years. and to me, its not so much the lack of energy as it is a lack of creativity. and i don't fault the band members, they don't control our halftime shows. i fault whoever is responsible for choreographing and arranging our halftime shows. i guess that would be the band director...

I think what some believe is that the general public doesnt consist of people with keen musical ears so they arenet into all the "musicianship" that IS displayed by the BGMM. For most people that attend the football games they just want to be entertained and most times musicianship and technicality doesnt bring a crowd to its feet lets be honest. Sometimes you just have to give the people what they want which is to be excited and hey there is nothing wrong with a little friendly trash talking (ie what central did withe DOA).
To my uneducated musical ear the machine sounds fine, nothing wrong there but there's nothing in the halftime shows to make the people want to get up out there seats. Pretty much its the dance routine that has been uninspiring. One of my favorite BGMM moments was whent the machine did strobe light honey (making fun of NCCU) during an aggie eagle classic halftime and then switched to some other song that got the crowd hype. dont remember the year but it was carter-finley. Maybe some of this creativity is missing, i dont know.
Overall kudos to the BGMM and wish you guys were going up to Morgan to blow them out at their homecoming (that would be classic) there's noting better than showing somebody up at their stadium in the stands or the gridiron especially homecoming.

It was refreshing to see the Aggie lean left out because they do not do it correctly anyway. The Aggie lean is not done by leaning back quickly with one drum beat and a bounce back up. The lean was done with a drum roll beating as they leaned back. The half time show was very good without it. Start and finish with something to catch the attention of the audience.
