How many other bands or how often other bands do sideline entrances is not up for debate. What does that have to do with my preference for the Machine doing entrances from the end zone?

Hey guys...I don't want to beat a dead horse here but, on a very fundamental level...NO...it doesn't cost a thing to be creative. But, put it all it to perspective, the very band we are talking about is a perfect example of what funding can do for your program. Think of their program 5 years ago with no funding at all. Mention Winston's band and people would almost kill over laughing. Up until this point, you've never seen a band out of Winston that good. When I say "good", creative is a variable that goes into good. I still do not believe WSSU's program is up to A&T's yet but, you sit and watch as the more they fund their program what it does. My last example is SHAW....they didn't even have a band of course. Now look...if you haven't seen them, you better ask somebody.

This as always been Southern's entrance...They use this entrance for every show Yes. I didn't say it was novel, it's just better than what we currently do IMO and an example of a good end zone entrance. Another thing is that we used to do is upper body accents also. They can add another element of energy and excitement to the band's movement. We hardly do any movement above the waist in our current style.

I watched the A&T and WSSU halftime show on TV the other night and found that there is a big difference between the two bands in musicianship, precision marching and the dancers/flagladies. A&T hands down. The difference was in showmanship, presentation or entertainment, and that really didn't come for WSSU until the last 2-4 minutes of their show when they were able to grab the crowd (their fans).
A&T needs a signature song or sound that is entertaining and can be played while precision marching through various formations, in the stands or marching in place on the field that will hyphe or whip the crowd into a frenzy. We have all witnessed the same dance steps by HBCUs for the last 30-40 yrs. The good bands have that intangible in a step or a sound that makes them standout above the other bands. Take Notre Dame, Southern Cal, Ohio State or Michigan as examples of the ability to work their fans up into a frenzy. They do it with a signature sound and drill steps thats are recognizable all over the nation. They don't need gimmick dance steps ( they may not be able to dance). While I appreciate dance steps, that can't be all there is to a band. A&T's band is great, but it needs that little something in sound and step to set it apart from its rival bands.
Years ago (50s-70s Carlson era) A&T had a signature entrance from the end zone that was different from any other band and was exciting to the fans. The band needs to retrieve that excitement and creativity. That crowding together on the sidelines at the end of their performance was a complete dud. They need to scrap that. Those young people work too hard to have an under achieving performance. The quality and talent is there.
