A&T keeps football coach a secretGREENSBORO -- N.C. A&T athletics director Wheeler Brown said Tuesday he knows who he wants as the Aggies' next football coach. But here's the rub: State hiring guidelines prohibit him from announcing his decision until Jan. 6. Brown said he interviewed three candidates for the job -- interim coach George Ragsdale and two coaches from outside the program. www.news-record.com/content/2008/12/31/article/at_keeps_football_coach_a_secret

"Brown said he interviewed three candidates for the job"
That means one of three things
He made up his mind early Not many coaches were interested He's not too smart

Does the fact that he can't officially name the gentleman as the coach until Jan 6 mean that the new coach won't be in place until then? I hope not I hope the new coach has already began to assemble staff and start (continue - if Oliver and Rags have already started??) the recruiting efforts for the 2009 class. Any one have any insight on if the coach has already started without it being official?

None. It's only conjecture on my part at this point but I think Lee is the guy that Wheeler settled on early on because of what he was able to do with the defense on a national level in spite of Small's failures as a head coach.
Lee's defenses showed up every week and for every game and his players loved him. If you want a guy who yells and screams and gets in people's faces when they don't perform and berates refs on questionable calls then you have your man.
Besides the asking price is more than right and will probably be right around or just under the 100K mark which is where it probably should be right now and free up as lot of money to do other things the program really needs to spend more money on.
But I would prefer a five year deal for the next coach and we stick with him and off his back. I think he can win twice as many games as we did this past year when I look back at the games we lost to NSU, NCCU, and Bethune. None of those teams were better than us but we just were out coached and outmaneuvered at crucial moments by the other sideline.

Why? What in our recent history has shown us that we should trust in our leadership and have faith in their decision making process?
Time and time again they have let the fans down and only shown incompetence.
Why should we give them another blank check for 5 more years after we have just suffered the worst 5 year period of futility in our school's history?
Isn't that akin to voting for McCain after 8 years of George W Bush?

After doing some checking, No, the new coach cannot start until after Jan. 6. Most coaches who have been narrowed down to the final two would and can be considering who will be on their staffs. Anyway this a Dead Period for recruiting until after the National convention in Nashville. Since it's down to two, I believe Wheeler made his mind up quickly and before Christmas. Reading football scoop, Frazier pulled out and it is between Lee and Ragsdale.

What we need more than ever is checks and balances, a demand for transparency within the athletic department and some sort of system of accountability.
How can we ensure that Dee Todd and Lee Fobbs never happen again?

HE didn't pull out. He was never offered. "Whatcha talkin bout Willis?" Whoever Football scoop.com's source was, they were incorrect. Frazier was never offered the job.

So does that mean Frazier is still a candidate or does that mean he was never being seriously considered?
