For argument's sake, how would folks feel if their favorite candidate showed up to interview in, uhh, a track suit with some Birkenstocks on? Or some jeans and a t-shirt and said his luggage got lost by the airlines? Or in a suit with no socks and said he used the socks to wipe Nicole's blood off the car seat while he was in the parking lot right before the interview?
What if your favorite candidate showed up with a white woman on his arm? Or a white man on his arm? Or his thong was showing? What if he showed up with an NCCU sweatshirt on? A purple polyester suit with matching gators and a gold tie? Where do you draw the line? Some dam socks?
Personally, I have never shown up to an interview thinking I automatically had the job. That includes when I worked for my parents. If you are not prepared for an interview you probably won't be prepared for the actual job. It's similar to practice in my opinion. If you practice like crap you will probably play like crap.
To me a bad interview is not excused by a good record, and vice versa.

It's all about showing respect. Respect for yourself and respect for the position you are applying for.

It's all about common dam sense. Dress like you're interviewing for a position and you are not taking the position for granted.
If I showed up to an interview in a track suit you'd best believe the first thing out my mouth would be “y’all are probably wondering why in the hell I gots on this heah track suit. Well I gots on this heah track suit cuz if you hire me I’ma run this program right back to the winner’s circle! We gone run to daylight! We gone win this race!! {insert Howard Dean scream here} I gots on this heah track suit cuz I’m the right man to run this program!!”
Then I’d climb back down off the table, sit down, open up my briefcase, and give a detailed plan.
If I showed up with no socks… hell, I don’t know about that one….
OK, I’d take off my shoes and put them on the desk. Then I’d say “do you smell that funky, stankin’ isht? That’s the agony of de feet! Take yo got dam hand off your nose!” Then I’d force Battle’s head closer to the shoe and say “smell it igga!! That’s the same scent that’s been wafting all over this campus since the last time I came ‘round heah!!!. That smell is yo got dam football program. This right heah is me!!!” Then I’d pull out some of that powder-fresh Lysol and spray my feets, the shoes the desk, everythang. Then I’d light some aromatherapy candles, pull out some Glade Plug-ins, and light some of that pussywillow incense. Then I’d say softly “this right heah is me. I’ma clease this program of the agony of de feet.”
Then I’d climb back down off the table, sit down, open up my briefcase, and give a detailed plan.

Battle should believe what he saw, if indeed that was the case, and reject him as a serious candidate.

Phillips has friends and strong support from some Aggies so he had to know what was said about his last interview in 2005. If Phillips showed up for the interview without socks then he doesn't think in a straight line. He is not applying for a couputer software job in sunny southern Cali or in Silicon Valley or in Miami Beach.
I have taken a second look at Phillips, thanks to Dooms. He is a good coach. The unknown answer to the question about Phillips is: "Can he do better than Ely-Hill at Morgan State or "Shine" Wyatt at Bethune Cookman?"
Noticed I didn't say better than Buddy Pough or Joe Taylor. Folks that ain't happening. SC State was half-a-step away from beating three time defending national champs App State. In my opinion SC State is about a step to a step-and-a-half away from making it to the FCS championship and FAMU is running closely behind, in the Bulldawgs' tracks, breathing hard down their necks.

I thought dwight09 was making a joke until everybody took it serious, but you have to wonder if dude is taking the job seriously, and if he's not then it’s on him. Plus it wasn't the just the warm-up suit last time, he was totally unprepared to discuss what his plan or any plan for improving Aggie Football. Let me get this straight. A man is unprepared to discuss his plan for improving Aggie Football becuase he doesn't have on socks? Yet Lee Fobbs was dressed to the nines for his interview, ( btw, I saw him) and he lost 27 straight games. Please explain what clothes have to do with running a football program professor, its not about the clothes. its about having class and dignity, versus not having class and dignity. its about representing a&t in a way that is consistent with what we stand for as a university. classlessness "is not" what we represent as a university. and what kind of message does that send to the athletes? don't take your job interviews seriously? wear a sweat suit and no socks to that interview with ibm? why should we hire a "highly visible" university representative who exhibits no class or dignity? as a representative of you, me, and the university, he'll be viewed and heard on national tv. yes, we all want to win football games, but its not too much to ask to be represented by someone who also understands what class and dignity means...

Yet Lee Fobbs was dressed to the nines for his interview, ( btw, I saw him) and he lost 27 straight games. Please explain what clothes have to do with running a football program If a dude shows in a warm-up suit and then can’t articulate his plan for improving the program or failed to do just the basic research of the teams or coaches in the league he will compete, he’s obviously wasting everybody’s time. This wasn’t only about dress, it was about being ready to lead Aggie Football, showing that you have a plan, showing that you understand the budget constraints, demonstrating successes in navigating budget, recruiting administrative and operational issues. Now sometimes you have a bad interview. But if you really and truly want the job, you show dressed and prepared to lead, not to leave doubts in the mind of the interviewer. So, your appearance, your preparation, your communication, your manners, your football success, your whole persona has everything to do with getting the job. When you step before the interviewer that’s your shot to prove you are the best person for job. People are always looking for the best person, it you choose to eliminate yourself by not playing by the rules, that on you, because you know the rules. Nobody should interview for any job in a warm-up suit or without socks, let alone the head coaching position at a university. That is both disrespectful to the position and the interviewer. But to compound it with not being prepared is totally inexcusable. It was obvious the problem with the Fobbs hire was they didn’t put more weight on the football success parts. Plus, K. Phil hasn't interviewed, so it must've been somebody else without socks. 'thrilla please get to the bottom of who this ashy foot mofo is and what are they doing on the Yard.

I seriously doubt Wheeler would waste Kenny Phillips time by even granting him an interview. It is obvious that he is not the guy Wheeler has in mind to be the next coach here.
Besides, Phillips has already lost in the second round to Broadway. Why are we still discussing him as a candidate?

Someone call the men in the white lab coats with the straight jacket in hand and have Dooms escorted from the building- NOW. Pleeezzze!!!! All joking aside, it's called respect. You wouldn't go to church like that and you expect someone to take you serious about a job interview when you don't have enough common sense or courtesy to put socks on with a suit? Talk about lowered expectations. Some our folks need a swift kick in the a** and to get real.

You guys will never be happy. Regardless of what the man has on, I want to hear his vision for returning Aggie Football.
And Respect. Hell we don't respect ourselves. We don't even do everything we say we are going to do for players. Ask around and see how many players have been kicked out of Summer School because someone didn't pay their bill from the athletic dept like they were suppose to
