I listened to the Del state broadcast. 2 Younger guys, sounded like they were in there late 20s. They never bad mouthed A&T the entire broadcast. They were unbiased as you could get with a beat down like that. They sounded like they couldn't believe that A&T was this bad now. Don't know about that. I heard some shots in the fourth quarter

They didn't have anything else to talk about by then. They tried as long as they could. They took less than expected considering the circumstances.

Back to the top. We still need to bring in a new play-by-play guy after the season.

Are we currently doing anything to address this issue before next season arrives?
I'm trying to be a nice guy about it, but I demand to see a new radio broadcast team in September.

Thrilla,
Ima go out on a limb and say that your check to the school/athletic departmet isnt big enough to make any demands. Especially when its going to move a Hall of Famer and a Board member. (Even though its painful)

I agree with Thrilla, these guys have been broadcasting (misnomer) A&T football for over 40 years and I have never heard anything positive stated about their broadcasting abilities. It's pass time for a change. Listening to their broadcast is a "frustrated mess".

Antfan2003, please don't confuse me with yourself. You don't know how big of a check I can write or who in the athletic department I have a line of communication with.
Let me go out on a limb and tell you that I can demand anything I feel like.

That might very well be the case, but it doesn't mean they aren't over the hill and new blood shouldn't be brought in.
The BDF didn't get to where it is today by just settling for the status quo. Just because something has been going on for years doesn't mean it can't use fixing.
If A&T adopted that menatlity there would be no reason for a new fitness & wellness center, track, stadium lights, jumbotron, etc... If the BDF adopted that mentality we would still be meeting in a private forum on meacfans.com
Change is inevitable.

I agree that they are good and terrible.... !!! but they have a political moat built around them and its full of aligators.

I still don't understand this "political moat" that I keep hearing about. Who are the powerbrokers at A&T that are defending their broadcasting skills. Dee Todd? The board of trustees? The chancellor? Who?
I personally can't think of one single individual who doesn't think our broadcast team sucks.

Has nothing to do with their broadcasting skills.. rest assured that there is total consensus across the board that their skills or lack thereof are suspect beyond measure..

Back to the top. We still need to bring in a new play-by-play guy after the season. Maybe not next year but that's ultimately the answer. Mel and the boys can still do color commentary and special features. Play by play should be an unbiased, solid call of the game, color can be anything you want it to be. I think you add a fresh play-by-play guy to the team. Move one of the other guys to do sideline reports.

Yeah, I can see moving Billy down on the sidelines and MAYBE keeping Mel on staff to provide color.
However, Spencer has got to go.
The foundation of a radio broadcast team is its play-by-play announcer. If he sucks the whole team will suffer. I don't see why you just can't give Spencer a great going-away ceremony during this year's Spring Game and find a new guy to take his place before the regular season gets here.

I've only heard one broadcast team at an hbcu and that was Morgan State's when they had Bradshaw Littlejohn at QB. I was so impressed.... I mean they were just as good as Woody Durham on UNC football radio. Where you felt like you were right there in the stadium!!! But doesn't Morgan have a broadcast journalism department? Hey that makes a difference!!! As far as Spencer, Mel & Billy..... when I was younger I'd get frustrated with them but yr. by yr. I've grown to love them in the booth.... I think they do a wonderful job!!! And then on top of that they do what they do for free!!!! Hell they do an outstanding job!!!! What better love to show your university by donating your time towards something that was needed!!!
