Its one thing to cancel all your Saturday afternoon plans, send the wife to the mall and listen to your alma mater get the hell beat out of them on the radio. Its another thing entirely to listen to said azzwhipping as announced by Spencer Gwyn and Co.
Their play-by-play skills are about as bad as our run defense and tackling.
I'm well aware that Gwyn, Mel Swan and Billy Covington have done a lot for A&T throughout the years and that they now practicallly work for free. But dammit, its time that they get forced into retirement (obviously they are not getting the subtle hints) and some new blood is brought in.
Bottom line: You get what you pay for.
Just listen for a minute to Lafayette's game webcast and then click back to WNAA and its like two different games are going on. It's like two different sports are going on.

Honestly they don't bother me that much. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that I've been listening to them for 16 plus years so I'm used to them. They're like the drunk uncle at the bbq. You know he's gonna set the race back every year but he's kinda entertaining so you let him do it.

Dooms, this is not a family reunion spades tournament. This is suppossed to be bigtime college football. If Todd is truly serious about revamping the athletic department, she needs to start by finding some fresh young talent to broadcast our football games. The guys we have in the booth right now are so bad that they call players the wrong name, announce the wrong score (when they do remember to announce the score) and almost always have an error with the down and distance. The drunk uncle routine might be good for a few laughs amd bring back memories of our youth, but that crap aint gonna cut it when I'm trying to seriously follow my favorite football team.

I don't know how many of you know I'm a broadcast major, but yea I mentioned gettin some young blood in the booth and they looked at me like Blasphemy! I mean I'm not Keith Jackson, but I'm already an employee of WNAA and I do the internet stream play by play, and i like to think I have some insight seeing as im sports editor and see these dudes everyday...but really they have that job til God forbid one of them passes, but yea they need to shake it up a bit

They are the worst and we do need some new blood in there. They don't even announce some player's names when they make a play. Example( 5 yard pass to the wide receiver on the right side of the field) You are left scrambling trying to figure out who made the play.

That's why I said "supposed." We have a long way to go before we can even consider ourselves an average college football program, but it sure is not helping matters by having Spencer, Mel and Curly doing our game broadcasts.
Folks, this is 2006. Change is inevitable.
Mike, I didn't know you were a broadcast major. I need to hollar at you about doing some video interviews and features for this site.

Replacing them was probably one of the things that got Scandrett fired. Don't you remember he tried to change the whole broadcast structure to an Aggie Football network. It died after one season. I generally listen to the other team's broadcast unless ours is the only broadcast.

I don't really remember the whole Scandrett situation with the Aggie Football network. I hope that was not the main reason he got fired. If so, put another check in the "bad athletic department decisions" column for Renick. Now is the time, however, when we need to revisit the idea of revamping our broadcast team. There comes a moment when every aging star has to know when to hang it up. Some people leave while they are still on top like Rocky Marciano and Lennox Lewis, some people don't read the writing on the wall and start making a travesty out of their legacy, like MJ with the Wizards.

Here's the deal:
We canned men's tennis. We have a volunteer coach who we ain't paying cause he's the coach's son. Our coach is also forced to be our offensive coordinator cause we're cashed strapped. Our d-line coach is now also our d-coordinator and I'll betcha 20 bucks it'll stay that way for financial reasons. Our team is riding a bus to get their a$$ whupped on national t.v. against Bethune Cookman cause we can't afford to fly them. Nobody's seen our band off campus in weeks. I wonder why (hint: money). The old tennis coach still ain't been paid.
And we're complaining about a broadcast team we know damn well works for free? You get what you pay for and we can't afford to pay for more. All this pipe dreaming about new broadcasters and teams that can tackle and the damn coach couldn't even start til January cause we didn't have the money in the budget should probably stop right about.... now.
We're broke. Say it over and over in your minds. We're running a division I program on a middle of the road division II budget. We should be happy anybody is in that hot a$$ booth and willing to sit on a damn bus to ride to a game so y'all have something to complain about. I love A&T almost as much as my nuts but I ain't riding no bus for free to do no commentary about how we suck again.
Yeah, I'm halfway defending them because good or bad, I identify them with Ayantee athletics with when I'm unable to make a game. More importantly we are dead last in rushing defense and are facing the probability of going o-fer for the season and damn near half of next season too. I give a damn if the clown telling me about it has the speaking skills of a meac ref or that big dude from "The Green Mile."
