Very interesting indeed...I was also intrigued by his thoughts on Supreme Court decisions, out of state cap increase, social issues in our country and how that could continue to drive our enrollment increases. The high priority facility requests to be made of the state. Their engagement with local and state leaders to make that happen...and making sure those leaders are aware of (agree to) and understand that the gap in funding has to be closed. He would rather push the current leadership for increased funding than to try a lawsuit that that would not never bring us anything close to what we are owed...if anything at all.
I was glad to see increased funding and support for the Band Program...and the new dorm and other constructing and improvements are underway.
Thought of one poster in particular when Pompey started talking about War Memorial...the upgrades that are planned and the moving the softball stadium to the location. He gave a lot of information without giving any specifics on this "Multiphase" project. All that said, I was happy to see that he said things would start kicking off this summer.
I had to laugh when Hilton's slides showed the MEAC and Big South..."Former Conference"...sad thing is I could tell which conference was which by the rankings and post season births. I'm still glad we made the moves we made.
Martin's comments on HBCUs...who we serve and how we have traditionally tried to keep tuition low, then as a result...how that has impacted our ability to have some of the facilities people are now clamoring for was spot on. All that said, I expect tuition and fees to be going up in the years to come and I expect more and better facilities as a result. How many times did he say "no excuses", and "unapologetically" when it came to competing.
He ain't playing, and will use any influence he has to pick a new leader who thinks the same way he does.
The VC of Finance is involved in that War Memorial Project. Hopefully, ground breaks this June. Otherwise, we’re gonna see more Alumni jump on Bornthrilla’s side.
I agree...Upgrades to War Memorial, moving Softball, and adding supporting facilities is exciting. I can't blame Thrilla though, it's long over due and A&T is slow as molasses when it comes to athletics facilities. He did say it would be a multiphase project, but when it's all done the "complex" will be top tier.
