St. Augustine University isn't only HBCU in state with enrollment issues, data shows As a state, the combined enrollment of our 10 accredited HBCUs is down, but only by 4%. Over the last 10 years, nationwide HBCU enrollment has dropped by 16%. However, looking at individual schools, it becomes clearer that some universities are losing students at a much higher rate in the past decade. Six of the state’s 10 historically Black colleges and universities have seen greater decreases than the national average in that same period. www.wral.com/story/st-augustine-university-isn-t-only-hbcu-in-state-with-enrollment-issues-data-shows/21287892/

Academics and graduation rates are more important. And this is why I'm not against what A&T is doing and how we are moving to get the best and the brightest in our university

I guess it depends on what timeframe you look at. These two articles were written a month apart.

The common app is what is driving the increase in applications. Fill out one application and apply to multiple universities.

our engineering and technology schools are largely responsible for a&t enrollment growth as those curriculums are very conductive to the advancement of technology in the usa. when i graduated, "100%" of engineering and technology graduates found immediate high paying jobs. heck, i had so many offers when i graduated that i started accepting on site job interviews just so that i could fly around the country to see places i'd never been to before.
as long as our university continues to have competent management on the part of our admins, i don't see a&t having any major enrollment decreases in the future...

I agree 1000%. Plus the cost compared to schools in pretty much every northern state is very cost effective even when considering the out of state cost. Plus, if I recall correct the out of state quota for students was recently increased.

If I'm not mistaken on the figures, I believe our cap is now 23% over the 16% that it used to be.

Wow, didn't know it was quite that high. No wonder enrollment is growing like wildfire. Guess we have become "the place" to be for out-of-state students.

Got a kid out here in Colorado that fell in love with A&T on an HBCU Tour in the Fall. He got gear and everything. Now his mom says he paniced when he saw what his grades had to be so he's got two years to hit the books. He wants to major in Physics.

Another way is for him to transfer from a community college in Colorado. Do one semester then transfer!!! He and his mom can research the transfer requirements. There is no out of state cap on transfers.
