they boatraced us because our offense couldn't consistently move the ball, it was that simple. had either raynard or carter (both out with injuries) played in that game, it would've been an entirely different story. that's the same team that beat kent state early in the season which is the game that carter got injured. and, i wouldn't say we "walked thru" the meac cuz the buzzards beat us pretty bad and we were "lucky" to squeeze out a win against scsu that season. nevertheless, both coach broadway and coach washington would've had a better season with the exact same players on our roster this season that coach brown had, that's not even disputable... Had Raynard or Carter played against Central, we would have probably been in the Celebration Bowl and never would have seen Richmond. but that's not the point...

Wilds-Lawing & Brickhandler have joined the portal express. More to come, most definitely! On a related note, if you check past posts, I told y'all that Wilds-Lawing was the best quarterback on campus! I saw him QB at NW Cabarrus in high school, and he was/is a STUD! He got lied to and got converted to WR under the premise that he'd be a featured receiver at JumpBallU because of his height and athleticism. We see how that panned out... I wish him well. He's a great kid. Maybe it was because he didn't turn out to be a good enough receiver. I know I saw him drop quite a few passes that I think he should have caught. And it must have been the Washington regime that lied to him, if that's what happened.

You're right Oleschool...Poor choice of words on my part...but the kid had gotten no run all year...and they boatraced us, because they were better than we were. And we had just walked through the MEAC with the exception of Central that year. Which goes back to the original point on competition. they boatraced us because our offense couldn't consistently move the ball, it was that simple. had either raynard or carter (both out with injuries) played in that game, it would've been an entirely different story. that's the same team that beat kent state early in the season which is the game that carter got injured. and, i wouldn't say we "walked thru" the meac cuz the buzzards beat us pretty bad and we were "lucky" to squeeze out a win against scsu that season. nevertheless, both coach broadway and coach washington would've had a better season with the exact same players on our roster this season that coach brown had, that's not even disputable... It IS disputable...or debatable.

It could’ve been that I misread a post, but I hate to see him leave without seeing him at QB.

It could’ve been that I misread a post, but I hate to see him leave without seeing him at QB. Yes, he was supposed to be given a fair shot at competing for QB1 and it didn't happen. The advice was he'd see the field as a WR sooner than later given his height and athleticism and that didn't happen. I told this board that he was without question the best QB on the team, and it didn't make sense that he didn't play QB. It sounds like you saw him just like I did at NW Cabarrus, and when I learned he committed to A&T, I legit got excited about the prospects of him running Barnette's offense. It didn't materialize. Don't be surprised if he winds up at JCSU. Smith IS ON THE RISE! Trust me on this. They're playing in the inaugural "Something Florida Bowl" in a few weeks. Smith is loaded with FBS and FCS transfers, and they're young!

I need Chris young to consult with his family and after praying about it enter his name into the portal I'm not worried about Young ,I'm worried about getting talent . All of sudden everyone is seeing what I have stated from the first game . That we didn't have the talent. Don't get it twisted we had some individual talent but we didn't have the talent to complement that talent especially at the skill positions and O line . And playing favorites for what ever reason didn't help any. This team had problems from the HC down . That's what you should be worried about how Brown is going to right ship . Because a QB is nothing without his O line and receivers especially if he doesn't know how to use and lead them .

Hey, the reason we stunk this season wasn't because we had world-class talented players! So, I don't understand why all the handwringing over the transfers and graduations. We need to free up some scholarships so we can bring in some talented players that can compete in the CAA. Receivers that can catch the damn football, and offensive linemen that are big and quick enough to give our QB time to find the open receivers. And DBs that aren't afraid to tackle anybody.

The most important game we must win is ahead of us. That's the Transfer Portal game. We must bring in better talent than we lose. No excuses.

BTW: There are no more NLI caps for Division one schools starting this recruiting cycle. So, that means Coach Brown can sign 85 students this upcoming class if he wanted to. Westcoastaggie, I don't know what new changes you are trying to imply for the upcoming recruiting cycle, but I posted the below information the 1st part of 2023 and these NCAA D1 FCS rules/bylaws have been in place for more than a year. FCS teams, under NCAA rules, have a 63-scholarship equivalency limit for football. That means the total amount of aid given to athletes can only equal the amount that would be given to 63 players receiving full rides, although the Division I football maximum limit of 85 players receiving athletic aid still applies. For example, an FCS team might have 41 players on full scholarship and 44 players receiving 50% of a full scholarship. Now most FCS teams carry more than 85 players which are made up of walk-ons. A&T carries over 100 players each season. Below is the official NCAA bylaws. Go about two thirds down the document to "bylaw 15.5.6.2" to see the FCS football scholarship info. web3.ncaa.org/lsdbi/search/bylawView?id=8807

Sorry, another essay ahead.
I see conversation in this thread splitting into 2 groups, rebuild vs renovation. I am leaning towards the renovation group because I don't want to wait for 2 more years before we become competitive again. It is the easier path in my opinion for the head coach to start over with lots of new recruits and request for additional time (2 or more years) from Admin and fans to "win with his players." The hard path is to take on the challenge to convince Admin and fans that this team is not as bad as people think and with the right changes (players, coaches, funding, attitude, etc.) we can get back on track in about a year.
If Coach Brown is the coach we hope he would be, then he should be able to quickly upgrade his coaching staff (hire and fire); properly evaluate the talent of the players on the team that can contribute in his offensive and defensive system next season (starters, backups, and walk-ons); and recruit the right mixture of elite/good talented players from the transfer portal and high school. Concerns with this strategy is that you must be able to convince significant number of key players that you want to keep in the program from transferring and I am not just talking about only starters. Quality time has been invested in some players that may be backup that help with your depth chart. You will not get the same return on investment unless you bring in a transfer player. Football is a physical sport and a lot of HS players are just not ready to contribute physically at the college level. They need time to mature.
If you can minimize the transfers, then you need to win the recruiting war and you better not be slow in jumping into the game. I have a feeling we are behind the eight ball because I have not heard much noise about recruiting visits by players seen at games interested in playing for A&T. I asked the question in other threads but got the crickets treatment.
For those of you who are not familiar with the FCS 63-scholarship equivalency rule (see my above post), Coach Brown can't offer full fooball scholarship offers to every player he likes when he lost a player that only had a partial scholarship (50% or 33%). Whatever the number of players that leave (voluntary or unvoluntary) is the same number a coach can only bring in. An option is that he can combine several scholarships from exiting players to form 1 full scholarship. Another option is to work with the financial aid office to supplement a partial scholarship with an academic or merit scholarship to offer a full scholarship to a player. As you can see this can get complicated the more players you have to replace. If the school does not have a strong financial support for certain sport programs, then it will take longer to rebuild a good program the more players you lose or the worse the team record.
That is why in my post no matter if you are on team rebuild or team renovation Coach Brown can not just target elite players. The formula does not work that way. There is a delicate balance. So be careful what you wish for when you say start all over.

That’s basically the rule. That also means we carry about 10-20 walk-ons a season. But before this year, you could only sign 25 scholarship athletes this year. The CFP teams fought to lift this rule and it was for FBS and FCS schools. Also, APR rules were modified so students going in the portal wouldn’t hurt schools as long as the students enroll at another school. That’s, of course if they maintain proper progress towards graduation duringthe fall semester.
