The joint Social Work Ph.D could end up being affected. I wonder if this means it'll be an exclusively A&T degree?

It’s towards the bottom of the page, IIRC. Let me re-read and confirm. EDIT: their proposing pausing admission to that program and their Acting MFA.

Once decisions are made on programs, we will make every effort to ease the transition for those affected by program discontinuations. In each program, all students in good standing will have the opportunity to complete their chosen studies at UNCG.
From the chancellor's letter.

Associate dean, department head resigns in protest of program eliminations at UNCG Charles Bolton, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and interim head of the university’s anthropology department, tendered his resignation in a scathing letter to the college’s dean, John Kiss. Programs in Bolton’s own department were on a list of 19 potential eliminations the university released last week. That list, and the process university administrators used to create it, has been hotly debated since. ncnewsline.com/2024/01/24/associate-dean-department-head-resigns-in-protest-of-program-eliminations-at-uncg/

How in the world is this school still ranked higher than us in US News? What criteria does US News use to rank schools?

Didn't we go through a similar process several years back...revamping, consolidating, eliminating, and creating new programs. Now as I recall we did it while the University was growing, and that maybe a major factor in why folks are so unhappy across town. Making reactive cuts instead of proactive cuts. Plus HBCU culture is a bit different. Martin met little to no resistance when after a review it was decided that the School of Nursing should be moved under the College of Health and Human Sciences or the School of Technology should be moved under a revamped College of Science and Technology. We really don't have "schools" like we used to... most units are under a respective "College". Some underperforming programs were eliminated. Well, there's the JSNN but that's not just us. Their were also admin changes as well as I recall.
I'm willing to bet similar actions took place at other UNC System schools...which begs the question, are they just not happy with this guys leadership...and as a result are giving him a hard time about changes that from the outside looking in obviously need to be made.

Yes and the fact that he is overpigmented (made up word I know) underlies it all I suspect.
