I tell you what...if we don't get the APR score up this academic year, we will be below the 930 benchmark. So, transfers don't hurt so long as they athlete is in good academic standing, correct??? Because, it seems to me with the implementation of the transfer portal which, no one can physical prevent, it seems that measurable should be removed from the calculation. Just my two cents... i don't know why they've suspended the apr system but i would think it could be related to covid and the "transfer portal". i'd have to research it to know for sure. and yes, you're correct that if transfers remain in good academic standing at their new school, it should not hurt our apr. at least that's my understanding... Yes. It was COVID and transfer portal for two years. 2019-20 and 2020-21.

I see why Coach Brown is strict on academics and requires a high GPA for walk-ons. Yep. We can go ahead and delete that other thread with folk bitching and moaning about being too strict. LOL Doesn't the APR only apply to scholarship athletes?

Gotcha. Is the penalty based on the yearly score or the multi-year average? The penalty is from the NCAA, but I'm 99% sure Dr. Martin was not having that (902). The only reason I'm not 100% is because I'm not him and don't know exactly what's in his head. It's especially important with moving to the CAA. How embarrassing. Important point is that the guy Coach Broadway put in charge of fixing our APR issues (Washington) moved to a different position. Who knows what happened with whoever was Coach Wash's APR mgmt replacement.

Yep. We can go ahead and delete that other thread with folk bitching and moaning about being too strict. LOL folk don't really understand the apr system. it is not based on "grades", it is based on "eligibility". so as long as an athlete remains "academically eligible", then they will not hurt our apr. you do not need to be an "honor student" to remain eligible. "transferring out" hurts our apr as "retention" is a measurement of the apr system. guys leaving our program hurts our apr. if an athlete has a 4.0 gpa, it does not "skew" our apr score. you're either "academically eligible" or not, that's what the apr system measures. to remain eligible you have to have a 2.3 minimum gpa (last i checked). if everybody on the team has a 4.0, they'd have the same apr score as a team where everybody has a 2.3 gpa... Schlorship Athlete's that tranfer out and remain in good standings (eligible) it their previous University Will gain retention points for their previous as long as they progress toward graduating or graduate. What year was APR implemented by the NCAA? Answered my own question? 2003. My brother played and graduated from Howard before 2003 and he said the head coach followed the NCAA minimum requirement back then of 2.0 although the Admission requirements were higher for the general students.

I don't think we've EVER had 40 or more football players make the honor roll! Particularly in the Fall semester.
