Do you think we still need to file a lawsuit against the UNC system? Absolutely. Martin has said as much. He can't do it as chancellor and his leverage only gets us pennies on the dollar. We have to do both things. Good faith efforts are appreciated but are not good enough.

So the Maryland HBCUs who successful sued their state for back pay have more control over their institutions than we do here in North Carolina? Maryland HBCUs got 577 million dollars that was split between 4 different HBCUs over a decade… And they sued for 4 times the amount and took them over a decade to settle for that…and it was a republican governor that settled… neither party is going to do right by us as a whole…

The legislature will continue to spoon feed a few additional pennies each year until we forget how big the historical deficit really is. They will lull us to sleep focusing on the current year. And even if we catch up, we're still a 100 years behind. Don't be the frog in boiling water. No matter what rate our funding is increasing, NCSU funding will not decrease.

Martin said tonight at incoming engineering and computer science majors are not counted against the out-of-state cap.

Martin said tonight that he basically does not see the value in suing the state of NC for back pay of the $2.8 billion. He said he has been hanging around some dude named Aggie2039 and that guy successfully brainwashed him.

In the political climate, pissing off the GOP with a supermajority in the NC House and Senate isn't the smartest idea. Partnering with the state and having A&T involved with the growth of NC is smart move Don't forget, Martin worked for the Board of Governors

He also said that , in essence, fund the matching dollars to the same rate as NC State. I think that the burden is US being creative in receiving Research dollers. I think (I heard them say) that the State/Ag money matches up to $8 to every $1 awarded.
As for a Lawsuit. He mentioned FAMU's Students bringing one, but our approach is different. Personally There IS the case (pun intended)to be made to -1, keep it in the public eye for All of NC HBCUs- 2, fight for the next Generation (10 yrs goes by fast) to get the recoup of the $.

North Carolina ain't Maryland, and even in Maryland the HBCUs only get a fraction of what they were due...and had to split that amongst multiple schools. The current NC House barely wants to fund the UNC System, let alone making sure the HBCUs are taken care of...there is no doubt they would try to "punish us" for years to come. I think Martins approach of making sure they (BOG & NC House) are aware of the disparity, and keeping our primary funding requests a top priority for the system is the best course of action at this time.

North Carolina ain't Maryland, and even in Maryland the HBCUs only get a fraction of what they were due...and had to split that amongst multiple schools. splitting over half a "billion" dollars 4 ways ain't exactly "chump change". yes, that's over half a "billion" dollars that maryland hbcu's otherwise would not have. well worth the effort, imo. also, i don't think the maryland hbcu's ever expected to be awarded the total amount of money that they sued for. as with any negotiation, you always wanna start "high" while knowing a lesser amount would be acceptable. and btw, those funds are "publicly" manifesting itself by virtue of an "unprecedented" amount of tv and radio commercials (since i've been living here) from maryland hbcu's promoting enrollment at their individual universities. i've never seen or heard so many umes, csu, bsu, and msu commercials since they've received that judgement. also, for some reason fayetteville state is killin' it here in the dmv with commercials promoting enrollment there! it'll be interesting to see if their dmv enrollment numbers substantially increase cuz they have "flooded" the dmv r&b radio stations with commercials promoting enrollment at fsu...
