Here's another sports marketing plan that I am offering up, free of charge: In an effort to better increase the fan atmosphere at our sporting events, we need to starting giving out new "Aggie Rags" to as many fans as possible. These rags would be cheaper to mass produce than T-shirts, would come in only one size unlike the shirts (which would reduce the cost of production), and could hold advertising space for local sponsors that would help underwrite the cost of production. Aggie rags would also create a similar effect in the stands as the gold t-shirts if everybody waved them around in unison. This idea is not new. The Steeler had the terrible towels in the 70s, the Twin had the homerun hankies in the 80s. I can see this idea being even bigger than the t-shirts, because for one, it will be cheaper to manufacture than the shirts, and secondly, people will be more likely to bring an aggie rag to a game than they would wearing a certain shirt. People at the homecoming game are still going to come GQed up and that may or may not result in them wearing a shade of gold. However even if you are wearing a black leather jacket or a mink coat, you would still be able to wave an aggie rag at the game to show your support.

Here'a picture of Biff Englemeyer, one of our minority students who recently graduated from the Engineering Department. As you can see, he's not shy about displaying his Aggie Pride- even at his own wedding.

Imagine if the below images were of an A&T sporting event and the fans were waving the new Aggie Rags. How cool would that look?

Or even better, combine a blue Aggie rag with the solid gold campaign...

I thought about that, and then I remembered that yellow and blue make green. The combination of the two colors might create an optical illusion and make Aggie Stadium look like a Philadelphia Eagles' game.

I think that's an excellent idea, combine it with the solid gold campaign, "wear the t-shirt get the blue aggie rag" as you enter the seating area or at the gate.
Any idea how much, say 50,000 towels would cost?
Maybe we could interest the Aggie Club in participating in the promotion along with the marketing function and find some sponsers.

We can call Skip Alston and try to convince him to by an ad logo for his hot dog restaurant or his new barbecue spot. We can also try Mrs. Winners or Bojangles chicken and do some type of cross promotion. Show your Aggie Rag at the counter or drive thru window and get a special discount on a two piece or something.
There are numerous promotional opportunities with this thing.
It is soldified now: I am a genius.

I like the towel idea but perfer sticking to the Gold color. Thousands of fans waving/wearing a Gold item has greater visual impact.

Another selling point: Once it gets cold, T-shirts won't have the same impact. But GOLD "aggie rags" can also be "PLAN B" for the cold so that the campaign does not lose momentum in November. I'm feelin' dis!

Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Pepsi, etc. They may be able to collectively cover the costs completely. OK. If manufacturing costs are say $0.50 per rag(if it's a towel it's probably $1.00) in quantity. For 50,000 rags: $25,000 in costs. As someone said before: 1. Give them away to those that already have T-shirts on. 2. Sell them for a dollar($2 if towel) to everybody else. (people will buy them for a buck) 3. Sell the ad space to cover the cost on a per 1000 basis. This is very doable if it starts NOW!
