I think after watching this podcast for a third time, I feel worse about our situation than I did yesterday. We really have no immediate plan to address any of the major issues we are facing with this CAA move. These next 2 years might be brutal. I have to agree that I was disheartened from the fact that they haven't even started the silent portion of the Capital Campaign. It shouldn't take an Act of Congress to hire staff. Especially with some of them being backfilled positions. You dont understand government bureaucracy as it pertains to hiring practices. I takes a loooong time to hire...

Depends. If you politic for the money you get it and can get it filled in a couple of days. That's how I got hired and that's how I hired people under me when I was managing.
State government may run a little differently but here's the kicker: You have an institution you have underfunded by BILLIONS and it's public knowledge. Do you stiff them for badly needed monies for hires? That's highly illogical at best to me because it's just going to add to that billion dollar tab down the line, and it adds to the evidence of unequal support practices.

No rush. We've got plenty of time to fill those vacancies. Let's just take it slow over the next 3-5 years and get it right.

Sarcasm? Ha, hilarious... We do tend to practice paralysis by analysis at times.

The questions would have to be reasonable. I follow some of the other universities forums and it is pretty cool to read the answers from the AD’s. Some of the AD’s send out reminders about sending questions in.

Different people are good at different things. I don't think our AD is the fundraising type, and that's fine. He keeps our noses clean. But we need to put somebody in his department with a fire in their a$$ for fundraising and somebody else in his department with a fire in their a$$ for marketing. Everything else should follow in short order if you get those two started.

Somebody's salary and bonus needs to be directly tied to how much money they can bring in for our athletic department. Until we have a dedicated person on staff who is waking up in the middle of the night, thinking of creative ways to increase revenue, we will always lag behind the big boys.

Its not the money it is the process... Im in the Air force and it takes about 4 months to hire someone. If we want to change a civilian job description it takes ~2 months for the position to get a GS level determination. Hiring is very challenging...

It's not the Air Force.
How long does hiring take at ECU or UNCG?

No offense, but A&T is not the military. The UNC system is not the Air Force.
We have not hired a marketing person since Carl left. That is inexcusable.
At some point we have got to stop making ridiculous excuses for incompetence and start holding people accountable.

State government has bureaucracy too. Have you not noticed the flurry of job announcements being made by the school recently?

He is at all the home volleyball matches and football games.

He is also reading this thread. Everybody who works at the university has the ability to log on and express themselves on this message board.
