Sidebar.....since some of these big name recruits (namely basketball) are throwing out the idea of signing with an HBCU like Maker did with Howard, I would REALLY LOVE to see one of them sign with us. I keep hearing Lebron's son name thrown out there and I am continuously seeing it associated with NCCU..... ?!?! I think this is what has bothered me the most in the last few years. We could and should do a lot better in leveraging our brand. To be the largest HBCU in the country and to be riding this hot streak that we are, our name isn't mentioned enough for my liking. It seems like the only national appeal as it relates to Black popular culture that we are getting is from recognition of GHOE and of course the Celebration Bowl...which we will no longer have access to after 2020. I sure hope our membership in the Big South will give us that same type of platform amongst Black youth and their parents that leading off national bowl season on ABC did four out of the last five years. Level Moton has done a masterful job of getting himself out there on social media and further branding Central and their BB program to the point that Lebron's son is seriously considering signing with them. If that happens I will be elated and throwing up at the same time. I get sick of seeing Howard, Spelman, Morehouse, and FAM being thrust into the limelight. I'm happy for them, but as a proud Aggie, I believe we should own some of that national limelight as well. We have to strike while the iron is hot and make sure that folks know we didn't just luck up and become the largest HBCU in the country. We have a resurgent BB program, comparable (and I would argue better) basketball history, and we are a better national brand than NCCU....all that might change if Lebron's son signs with them. So Coach Jones needs to get on it.

Even better we signed a major track and field class after the announcement of moving to the Big South. Athletes that want to attend a HBCU and compete at the highest level and win will continue to sign with A&T. I do think that the possibility of winning a national track championship would absolutely bolster our brand and be a source of pride for all HBCUs. Coach Ross is working wonders with the program and definitely putting us on a national stage. I hope all of our programs can continue to recruit thoee type of high caliber athletes...regardless of conference affiliation.

So Coach Jones needs to get on it. I agree with this. I was talking about this with a fellow aggie the other day. I would love for our athletic department to be pumping out content that focuses on the student athletes. Even during the quarantine time it would have been good to see on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter questions in video form being asked to student athletes ( How they are dealing with quarantine, Favorite movies, what they looking forward to in their perspective sports, etc...) This could be done with coaches as well, it helps to see more personality of the coaches and students we want to support. Podcasts are huge as well and I would like for our Aggie Pridecast to really be blowing up now across many platforms. I use Spotify and I cant find in on there, if its on another platform besides soundcloud please let me know. Coach Jones is pushing the #protectthebrand hashtag and really giving props to a lot of the basketball student athletes. Its time to put more video highlights from the past year for people to repost, also putting our basketball history out there on social media more. This is how we can make sure we can keep our brand strong.

Like how the hell did NCCU jump us in being the top HBCU brand in basketball in the state of NC?? I mean I know that Central has had some success lately on the court, but to gain the attention of Lebron and his son??? We ain't flexing enough and our social media game has got to step up. That's why I was imploring us to reclaim Taraji Henson, celebrate our connection with Maseo who was a founding father of funk, and really work on getting our name and our brand into the right circles so that we are even more visible than we currently are.
Which gets back to my original critique....what visibility is the BS going to give us that the MEAC didn't? Our peak in enrollment coincided with 4 out of 5 years of being featured on national network television, a benefit that was afforded to us as champions of the MEAC. With that possibility gone after 2020, where will our national brand be solidified? Winning a national title in track? Continuing to lean upon the popularity of the GHOE brand? All of those would be great. But I fear that our failure to strike while the iron is hot and become entrenched into the zeitgeist of Black popular culture is waning now and will be further weakened by a move to the BS (unless we mess around and win the FCS playoffs...and not just a game or two in the opening rounds).
If Lebron's son signs with NCCU our days as being the top dog in this state are going to be severely threatened. Just imagine Lebron being courtside in McDougald-Mclendon gym and pumping money into their program. Advantage NCCU and MAJOR advantage for the MEAC...we need to step it up big time.

Because NCCU has been kicking our a$$ in basketball since they left the CIAA... they are HBCU basketball in NC. This has nothing to do with HBCU culture, A&T has been a hot pile of đź’© in basketball since I came to school in 1999.

That ain't actually beating the brakes off of us. Yes our basketball team has been garbage as of late but we are getting better. My point is...Makur Maker didn't sign with Howard because of how good they have been in basketball. He signed with them because they are HOWARD and he wants to hoop at an HBCU and in doing so, elevate other HBCUs. He signed with them because of their brand. If Lebron's son signs with Central it ain't going to be because NCCU is the king of the HBCU basketball world...its going to be because Moton has been out here promoting NCCU and HBCUs in general and has become the public face of embracing HBCUs as a refreshing alternative to PWI's that are steeped in a racist past and have a predominantly white fanbase that would sooner call the cops on our kids if they weren't playing ball for them. And Moton is SMART for making that pitch. Here's what he said in that article I posted earlier: That dude gets it...and folks are listening, including Lebron and his son. Now how are we, NORTH CAROLINA A&T STATE UNIVERSITY, going to let Moton "out civil rights" us??? We are the launching pad of the movement and we better remind folks of that during this current political climate and use it to brand ourselves....these kids are looking and listening right now. If Bronny Jr. wants to come to a blackity black school that gets down for the movement and is a hot HBCU, then nobody, and I mean NOBODY can or should out do us in that category. And I also guarantee you Moton will use the fact that we have left the MEAC against us should Bronny Jrs. decision comes down between the buzzards and us. Sad but true...I know I would if I was him.

I think it was hard for us to do major recruiting while Jones still had the interim tag. Now that he has been given the job officially, we will now be in the market for those big names.

Yeah well...we better be. Because if we aren't then we are NOT flexing our brand the way we need to. Central does not have a better basketball history than us. Their campus culture SUCKS compared to A&T. And their school ain't nowhere close to being in the same sentence as A&T. WE ARE A&T....and it's time that we let the world know what that means beyond just casual references to GHOE. I'm glad that the prognosticator has A&T listed in Lebron Jrs. top 4, but I'm going to be sick to my stomach if Lebron and his son end up in Durham. I'm telling you, that will be a MONUMENTAL game changer for them and perhaps push them ahead of us for national notoriety. Couple that with no more national appearances in the Celebration Bowl and its a recipe for disaster for our brand.

I guess we have to different view points, beating non-MEAC schools and winning a national title in football pushes the culture forward more than being the best out of 16 schools🤷🏾‍♂️. Reminds me of being proud of being the tallest midget. Our recruiting point could also be that we want to beat those schools and do it for the culture? All in perspective, half full or half empty. Furthermore i would rather have a team of three star seniors playing agains a couple 5 star freshmen. The one and done schools aren’t winning national championships.

I guess we have to different view points, beating non-MEAC schools and winning a national title in football pushes the culture forward more than being the best out of 16 schools🤷🏾‍♂️. Not at all. That would be a MAJOR accomplishment and absolutely elevate our brand to unprecedented heights. But these are lofty goals that won't be quickly or easily accessible. If we think A&T will bulldozer our way through the FCS playoffs and quickly take a title then we are both sadly mistaken and poor students of history. I think and hope that we will be competitive but its going to take a MASSIVE investment. Having said that, the checks that we collected over the last five years from the Celebration Bowl and the national stage that we enjoyed reaped some massive benefits for us....and let's not act like they did not. And some of those benefits (national stage, huge financial payoff, etc.) will only be comparable in our new conference if (and that's a big IF) we can manage to win it all in Chattanooga or wherever the hell they play the FCS championship game these days.

HORRIBLE that Central seems to have far better odds of landing him. Again...Moton get's it. He's playing that HBCU niche to a T (pun intended). We need to do the same.

If Lebron's son signs with anyone it may just be with Howard because of the signing of a legitimate big man which would make his life a lot easier. The only problem I see is does Lebron's son have the grades to compete in the classroom.
