It's kind've funny how we all say we have nothing to gain by joining a PWI conference yet we've gained all of our recent national notoriety by playing and beating PWIs out of conference lol. Famu would've had the same ranking as SCSU had they not beat us as a proven Nationally ranked team. Clearly everyone considers MEAC sports a big joke unless competitive out of conference. If we stay in the Meac I'm cool, if we leave great lol. We talk about attendance because of conference games but look at our attendance this year. How many other visiting bands and cheerleaders have we seen in our stadium this season to contribute to the HBCU experience? boring! that's what it would be like to join a pwc conference. you should check out some of the comments hampton alums have made about the big south. the culture is completely different. not many visiting pwc fans, boring marching bands if any at all, lack of interest in playing some of those schools because nobody has ever heard of them. and you're right, we've actually made a name for ourselves by beating highly respected ooc pwc's which to me means we don't need to join a pwc conference to do that. me personally, i don't care what "others" think about meac sports. it ain't like the big south is so "highly respected". i'd rather remain affiliated with schools that i can identify with and enjoy visiting. give me hbcu's all day...

Actually this talk of conference move is an exercise in futility. We need to improve our brand and own this conference with everybody else upping their programs. For some real there has been an attempt to disrupt the MEAC. As I observe FAMU situation it is my prayer that what happen at Maryland State/UMES who had a great football history do not happen to FAMU. to this day UMES have not recovered the result was the opening for the University of Maryland football program to increase their growth. HBCU's are in great difficulty today, see state of Georgia's proposal for those public HBCU's futures. The Obama administration was not a friend true friend that is to us. Private HBCUs suffered under that administration due to a change in the formula for parents to borrow finance for their children's education. As I see it there has to a new cultural thrust for the survival of our people. Education is key in that process. There is no reason for the third grade failure rate to continue being a predictor of future prison construction. While all of us may not be guilty or complicit is the social pathology of the African American community we are all responsible. For one our spiritual ethos has evaporated being replaced with an abandonment of our African heritage resulting in self hatred which is our current cultural expressions, an abandon neurosis. youtu.be/-X1vWRY8l-A

The only thing I ask is that if we are not in a new conference by the 2020-21 athletic year like you claimed, can you please come back to this forum and apologize for wasting everyone's time. Other than that, please feel free to break all the news you want. You have my word. I realize the word of an anonymous person is not worth much, but I will give you at least that.

I am still here. There have been further developments that have delayed the announcement but it will still be made soon.

Maybe the change isn't us leaving but the MEAC changing its name to A&TAC since we've been carrying it on our backs 🤣

I ain’t buying this one bit...not saying it’s not possible, but if A&T tries to leave the MEAC for another conference...and pulls a Hampton, the powers that be better get ready for the fallout from Alumni, students, and supporters.
It won’t be pretty...that’s for sure.
I ain’t going for that Big South or Southern Conference stuff at all.

You are still standing by that? heck, that would also mean we will not be playing "football" in the meac "this year"! according to the poster, we've already played our "last" meac football conference game...

I dont care either way, but seems like there's always talk about how other teams in the league aren't pulling there weight and the conference as a whole is weak. I don't know how long the CB will continue but we should have a plan in place because without the conference AQ we may start having a hard time recruiting top notch talent with no potential postseason play possibilities. It will be tough to get at large as MEAC champ if we dont have strong nonconference and win those games.
We always want to know how we stack up, well an opportunity could be presenting itself in a new conference affiliation.
Like someone previously posted, we can only carry this thing for so Long waiting on others to catch up, but in the words of the great "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, "To be the man you have to beat the man." We're still try to do this from afar, maybe it's time.
Not sure why alumni, supporters, etc would push back, because the university is trying to better its position athletically by joining a conference where we are more on an equal playing field? At the same time it could financially beneficial to us as well. Maybe we should just be satisfied being the big fish in a small pond and essentially for the sake of the other HBCUs we would then be keeping afloat indirectly by remaining in the MEAC. I mean let's be honest, for the most part the draw to most potential conference sponsors is the Aggies and everyone else is on for the ride.
No smack intended just trying to be realsiatic.
