Before we continue we need to be realistic. We need to upgrade our conference as a whole which could happen if the conference members schools' administrations make the commitments. I am still of the opinion that we need to handle our business by improving our social infrastructure. Again we need to abandon this east Greensboro concept and be attentive to all of the changes around us from a communiversity idea. Why cannot a new school of nursing be built on campus as well as a new school of music. It is our music which has impacted society and the world yet we cannot have a music building built? But I remember when the school of Veterinary science was being proposed and some consultant stated that you do not build a school in the wilderness in reference to our campus yet out of that wilderness have come greatness which continues today. Yet I wonder whether some of us have become drunk from the wine of the world that we have become impotent mentally emasculated. Now what i would suggest is that we begin a new thrust for excellence to enhance the student body participation in all areas relevant for their growth and development with our eyes continually on the prize in order for them to be rather than to seem. Lobengula, This issue is bigger than our conference administrators and member schools...we need to cut travel costs significantly. NC A&T spent ~$2M on travel, can you imagine how much FAMU, BCU and Del State spend? We need to reduce our conf foot print to save each member institution money. If not we need to find a way to increase conf revenue and subsidize travel expenses...you and i both dont see this happening in the foreseeable future. WSSU and Sav State were potential solutions to our travel woes but they returned to div 2. We need schools south of NC to help reduce costs. On a different note, if the state of NC returns to treating scholarship athletes as in-state students it will greatly reduce our costs. Those reduced costs only benefit NC schools and not the MEAC as a whole. A&T alum have an emotional connection to the MEAC however it isnt being turned into profit or funds for our athletic programs.

Actually this talk of conference move is an exercise in futility. We need to improve our brand and own this conference with everybody else upping their programs. For some real there has been an attempt to disrupt the MEAC. As I observe FAMU situation it is my prayer that what happen at Maryland State/UMES who had a great football history do not happen to FAMU. to this day UMES have not recovered the result was the opening for the University of Maryland football program to increase their growth. HBCU's are in great difficulty today, see state of Georgia's proposal for those public HBCU's futures. The Obama administration was not a friend true friend that is to us. Private HBCUs suffered under that administration due to a change in the formula for parents to borrow finance for their children's education. As I see it there has to a new cultural thrust for the survival of our people. Education is key in that process. There is no reason for the third grade failure rate to continue being a predictor of future prison construction. While all of us may not be guilty or complicit is the social pathology of the African American community we are all responsible. For one our spiritual ethos has evaporated being replaced with an abandonment of our African heritage resulting in self hatred which is our current cultural expressions, an abandon neurosis.

All of that is true but the presidents of all of the schools must share the same vision for athletics. And I’m not sure that is the case.

Thanks both aggie2039, aggierattler, I am mindful that travel is an issue. It was an issue when the conference was birthed and remains so now. We just got to do some creative things. For instance with the money from the lottery some of that money should filter down to all of the state institutions of education elementary to university. Those funds are there it just have to be a demand for access to those funds. I am very suspect of those who push this concept of leaving the MEAC all we got to do is make it better all the way around. Perhaps we need a new commissioner with new ideas that truly have the interests of all student athletes at heart. Educational seminars for all officials particularly in football and basketball. Quite frankly I understand some of the frustration with some of the recent matters as it relates to Coach Washington being fined. One matter that has concerned me is the MEAC basketball tournament being scheduled during spring break this too needs to revisited possibly with a new location as well.

Nah don’t. These dudes can’t hold water. As soon as you tell them, they are gonna type it on their phones. I remember Aggie77 was the one who spilled the beans about the Celebration Bowl. What! That's not the way I remember it, nor how it was. I do remember we heard the same thing at the same time, and maybe DGAggie was also there. I ask the voting public who is more likely to start calling people before they got out of the stadium?

It's kind've funny how we all say we have nothing to gain by joining a PWI conference yet we've gained all of our recent national notoriety by playing and beating PWIs out of conference lol.
Famu would've had the same ranking as SCSU had they not beat us as a proven Nationally ranked team.
Clearly everyone considers MEAC sports a big joke unless competitive out of conference.
If we stay in the Meac I'm cool, if we leave great lol. We talk about attendance because of conference games but look at our attendance this year. How many other visiting bands and cheerleaders have we seen in our stadium this season to contribute to the HBCU experience?
